Egypt hosted the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday, October 13, 2025, under the joint chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders of more than twenty countries.

This preceded the official start of the summit’s proceedings, hosted at the International Conference Center in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday, October 13, 2025.



President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, signed an agreement to end the war in Gaza.



President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, US President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani signed a comprehensive peace declaration endorsing the agreement between Hamas and Israel.

The signing ceremony took place during Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, held in the Egyptian resort city on Monday, October 13, 2025, which aims to bring an end to the war in Gaza, strengthen efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter of regional security and stability.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit witnessed the participation of leaders of more than twenty countries, including kings, presidents, vice presidents, prime ministers, and ministers.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic stated that leaders and high officials participating in the "Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit," alongside President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US President Donald Trump, are the King of Jordan, the Emir of Qatar, the Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the King of Bahrain, and the President of Palestine.

Also participating in the summit are the President of Turkey, the President of Indonesia, the President of Azerbaijan, the President of France, the President of Cyprus, and the German Chancellor.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister of Italy, the Prime Minister of Spain, the Prime Minister of Greece, the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Prime Minister of Hungary, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Prime Minister of Norway, the Prime Minister of Iraq, and the Vice President of the UAE are participating.

Also attending the summit are the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the President of the European Council, the Minister of State for External Affairs of India, and the Ambassador of Japan to Cairo.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that Saudi Arabia will take part in the summit with a delegation headed by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah Al Saud, noting that Paraguay and the Netherlands will also partake in the event.

The spokesman further clarified Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend the summit due to a religious holiday.

Gaza: Hostages reported released, aid scale-up has begun, say aid agencies

As the UN Secretary-General on Monday welcomed the release of all living hostages from Gaza, aid agencies said that lifesaving relief supplies are now flowing at scale into the shattered enclave.

António Guterres expressed his "profound relief" that the hostages had been freed, two years since they were among some 250 taken during Hamas-led terror attacks in Israel on 7 October 2023, before highlighting their "immense suffering".

The UN Secretary-General's comments came as he headed to Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh along with world leaders for the Gaza peace summit. The international gathering was convened after Israeli forces pulled back from parts of Gaza, in line with an agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered in Egypt by US mediators and representatives from Qatar and Turkïye.

In a message on X, Mr. Guterres reiterated his call for the release of the bodies of the deceased hostages and urged "all parties to build on this momentum and to honour their commitments under the ceasefire to end the nightmare in Gaza".

190,000 tonnes of aid to deliver

Meanwhile, UN aid agencies reported significant positive developments in getting aid into Gaza.

“Our humanitarian scale-up in Gaza is well underway,” said UN humanitarian agency OCHA, which noted that it had secured Israeli approval for 190,000 tons of food, shelter items, medicine and other supplies to enter the Strip, 20,000 more than previously agreed.

For the first time since March, cooking gas has been allowed to enter the Strip.

In addition, “more tents for displaced families, frozen meat, fresh fruit, flour and medicines also crossed into Gaza throughout the day on Sunday", OCHA said in any update.

Crucially, the aid agency reported that its workers and partners were now able to move more easily “in multiple areas” – a welcome development after constant access restrictions imposed by the Israeli authorities.

This has allowed aid teams to pre-position medical and emergency supplies “to where they are needed most”, the UN agency said, in addition to assessing key roads for explosive hazards and supporting displaced families in flood-prone areas ahead of winter.

“This is just the beginning. As part of our plan for the first 60 days of the ceasefire, the UN and our partners will expand the scale and scope of our operations to deliver life-saving aid and services to virtually everyone across Gaza,” OCHA continued.

The development is part of the wider humanitarian plan to scale up essential services across food, health, water, shelter, and education, outlined by UN emergency relief chief Tom Fletcher. Its key elements:

• Food assistance for 2.1 million people, with in-kind rations, bakery and kitchen support, livelihood restoration for herders and fishers, and cash aid for 200,000 families to strengthen dignity and choice.
• Nutrition programmes: expanded screenings and nutrient-rich food for vulnerable groups such as children, adolescents and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
• Restoring health care including services, essential medicines, enhanced disease surveillance and expanded emergency and maternal care, along with mental health, and rehabilitation work.
• Water and sanitation projects for 1.4 million people by repairing grids, sewage systems and waste management, plus hygiene supply distribution.
• Shelter assistance will be prioritized for displaced and vulnerable families with tents, tarpaulins and other materials ahead of winter.
• Education boost to reopen temporary learning spaces for 700,000 children with school materials and activities.

President Donald J. Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict:

1. Gaza will be a deradicalized terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbors.

2. Gaza will be redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza, who have suffered more than enough.

3. If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end. Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line to prepare for a hostage release. During this time, all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended, and battle lines will remain frozen until conditions are met for the complete staged withdrawal.

4. Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned.

5. Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life sentence prisoners plus 1700 Gazans who were detained after October 7th 2023, including all women and children detained in that context. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are released, Israel will release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.

6. Once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty. Members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided safe passage to receiving countries.

7. Upon acceptance of this agreement, full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip. At a minimum, aid quantities will be consistent with what was included in the January 19, 2025, agreement regarding humanitarian aid, including rehabilitation of infrastructure (water, electricity, sewage), rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries, and entry of necessary equipment to remove rubble and open roads.

8. Entry of distribution and aid in the Gaza Strip will proceed without interference from the two parties through the United Nations and its agencies, and the Red Crescent, in addition to other international institutions not associated in any manner with either party. Opening the Rafah crossing in both directions will be subject to the same mechanism implemented under the January 19, 2025 agreement.

9. Gaza will be governed under the temporary transitional governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee, responsible for delivering the day-to-day running of public services and municipalities for the people in Gaza. This committee will be made up of qualified Palestinians and international experts, with oversight and supervision by a new international transitional body, the “Board of Peace,” which will be headed and chaired by President Donald J. Trump, with other members and heads of State to be announced, including Former Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body will set the framework and handle the funding for the redevelopment of Gaza until such time as the Palestinian Authority has completed its reform program, as outlined in various proposals, including President Trump’s peace plan in 2020 and the Saudi-French proposal, and can securely and effectively take back control of Gaza. This body will call on best international standards to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and is conducive to attracting investment.

10. A Trump economic development plan to rebuild and energize Gaza will be created by convening a panel of experts who have helped birth some of the thriving modern miracle cities in the Middle East. Many thoughtful investment proposals and exciting development ideas have been crafted by well-meaning international groups, and will be considered to synthesize the security and governance frameworks to attract and facilitate these investments that will create jobs, opportunity, and hope for future Gaza.

11. A special economic zone will be established with preferred tariff and access rates to be negotiated with participating countries.

12. No one will be forced to leave Gaza, and those who wish to leave will be free to do so and free to return. We will encourage people to stay and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza.

13. Hamas and other factions agree to not have any role in the governance of Gaza, directly, indirectly, or in any form. All military, terror, and offensive infrastructure, including tunnels and weapon production facilities, will be destroyed and not rebuilt. There will be a process of demilitarization of Gaza under the supervision of independent monitors, which will include placing weapons permanently beyond use through an agreed process of decommissioning, and supported by an internationally funded buy back and reintegration program all verified by the independent monitors. New Gaza will be fully committed to building a prosperous economy and to peaceful coexistence with their neighbors.

14. A guarantee will be provided by regional partners to ensure that Hamas, and the factions, comply with their obligations and that New Gaza poses no threat to its neighbors or its people.

15. The United States will work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to immediately deploy in Gaza. The ISF will train and provide support to vetted Palestinian police forces in Gaza, and will consult with Jordan and Egypt who have extensive experience in this field. This force will be the long-term internal security solution. The ISF will work with Israel and Egypt to help secure border areas, along with newly trained Palestinian police forces. It is critical to prevent munitions from entering Gaza and to facilitate the rapid and secure flow of goods to rebuild and revitalize Gaza. A deconfliction mechanism will be agreed upon by the parties.

16. Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza. As the ISF establishes control and stability, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw based on standards, milestones, and timeframes linked to demilitarization that will be agreed upon between the IDF, ISF, the guarantors, and the Unites States, with the objective of a secure Gaza that no longer poses a threat to Israel, Egypt, or its citizens. Practically, the IDF will progressively hand over the Gaza territory it occupies to the ISF according to an agreement they will make with the transitional authority until they are withdrawn completely from Gaza, save for a security perimeter presence that will remain until Gaza is properly secure from any resurgent terror threat.

17. In the event Hamas delays or rejects this proposal, the above, including the scaled-up aid operation, will proceed in the terror-free areas handed over from the IDF to the ISF.

18. An interfaith dialogue process will be established based on the values of tolerance and peaceful co-existence to try and change mindsets and narratives of Palestinians and Israelis by emphasizing the benefits that can be derived from peace.

19. While Gaza re-development advances and when the PA reform program is faithfully carried out, the conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people.

20. The United States will establish a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous co-existence.

New York, October 8, 2025 – “For more than 700 days, children in Gaza have been killed, maimed, and displaced by a devastating war that undermines our common humanity. Yet Israeli strikes on Gaza City and other parts of the enclave continue. The world cannot, and must not, allow this situation to continue. An estimated 64,000 children, including at least 1,000 babies, have been killed or maimed in the Gaza Strip over the past two years. And we do not know how many more have died of preventable diseases or are buried under the rubble.

Famine persists in Gaza City and is spreading to the south , where children are already living in dire conditions. The malnutrition crisis remains dire, particularly among infants. Children, deprived of adequate food for months, are seeing their growth and development permanently affected.

The need for a ceasefire could not be more urgent. At least 14 children have reportedly been killed since Saturday morning as Gaza City and other parts of the enclave continue to be hit by intense Israeli bombardment and artillery fire.

UNICEF welcomes all efforts to end the war and chart a path to peace in Gaza and the region. Any plan must lead to a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the safe, rapid, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance—through all available crossings and routes —on the scale desperately needed by all Gaza's residents, especially children.

International humanitarian law is clear, and we call on Israel to fully protect the lives of all civilians. It is strictly forbidden to deny humanitarian assistance to civilian populations. All military actions must be guided by the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution, and civilians who cannot, will not, or choose not to evacuate combat zones remain civilians and must be protected in all circumstances.

Every child killed is an irreparable loss. This war must end immediately – the survival of all children in Gaza depends on it.

Two years to the day after the bloody Hamas attack in southern Israel that triggered the war in Gaza, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for the opportunity offered by the US peace plan to be seized to end "this tragic conflict."

Two years ago, Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups launched a "heinous and large-scale terrorist attack" against Israel. The attackers brutally killed more than 1,250 Israelis and foreign nationals. More than 250 others were kidnapped and taken hostage in the Gaza Strip, including women, children, and the elderly.

“On this day, let us remember all those who were killed and suffered horrific violence,” the UN chief said in a message marking two years since the October 7, 2023 attack.

According to Mr. Guterres, "the horror of that dark day will remain forever etched in our memories." "Two years later, hostages are still being held in Gaza in deplorable conditions. I met with families of hostages and survivors, who shared their unbearable pain," he added. About 20 living hostages are still being held in Gaza, along with about 20 bodies.

Free the hostages

As he has said repeatedly, the Secretary-General called for the release of the hostages, "unconditionally and immediately"; "to end the suffering of all"; to end hostilities in Gaza, Israel and the region "now"; and to stop "making civilians pay with their lives and their futures."

"After two years of trauma, we must choose hope. Now," exclaimed the Secretary-General, for whom "the recent proposal by US President Donald J. Trump offers an opportunity to end this tragic conflict."

“A permanent ceasefire and a credible political process are essential to prevent further bloodshed and pave the way for peace. International law must be respected,” said Mr. Guterres, who affirmed that “the United Nations’ commitment to peace remains unwavering.”

"On this solemn anniversary, let us honor the memory of all the victims by working for the only way forward: a just and lasting peace, in which Israelis, Palestinians and all the peoples of the region live side by side in security, dignity and mutual respect," he concluded.

Search for dialogue

"On this painful day," other senior UN officials also called for seizing the opportunity represented by the US peace plan.

This plan "represents a crucial opportunity to move beyond suffering and seek dialogue, peace and security for all," Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, said in a statement.

"Such measures are not easy to take, but they are essential if we are to honor the memory of the victims with actions and not just words," he insisted.

Help hindered

On the humanitarian side, agencies reiterated their call for a ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian operations.

UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher reiterated his call for "an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of all civilians and the free flow of humanitarian assistance on the scale needed."

On the ground, humanitarian access and movement within the enclave remain difficult. Last Sunday, eight missions requiring coordination with Israeli authorities were facilitated, but six other missions were refused and five had to be canceled by the organizers.

The ceasefire, “the only way out of the abyss and chaos”

The UN refugee agency ( UNRWA ) said an immediate ceasefire was "the only way out of this abyss and chaos."

But the urgent need is also to ensure "the unrestricted delivery of basic humanitarian aid on a large scale to Gaza, including through UNRWA," UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said on the social network X.

Tens of thousands of children killed or injured

The United Nations Children's Fund ( UNICEF ) has recalled that for two years now, children have been paying the heaviest price in this crisis.

More than 61,000 children have been killed or injured since October 2023. That's an average of one child killed or injured every 17 minutes.

"This is an unacceptable and staggering figure that we still have to live with today," said UNICEF spokesman Ricardo Pires, highlighting the plight of children "traumatized, exposed to horrors that no child should ever have to see or experience."

As you know, next Tuesday the 7^th of October marks two years since the horrific attacks on Israel by Hamas and other armed groups, in which 1200 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage into Gaza.

Those attacks led to two years of conflict in Gaza, in which more than 66 000 people have been killed, 70% of them women and children.

Thousands more are missing, presumed dead.

WHO welcomes the peace plan for Gaza proposed by President Trump, and supported by other countries in the region and beyond.

We welcome the proposal for an immediate end to the conflict;

For the release of all hostages;

For the resumption of humanitarian aid;

For the reconstruction of Gaza, including its hospitals;

And for peaceful and prosperous coexistence for Palestinians and Israelis.

Two years of conflict have devastated the health system and inflicted relentless suffering on Palestinians.

Currently, only 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are functioning even partially.

Health and humanitarian workers, including WHO staff, have been on the ground throughout the conflict under extreme and unsafe conditions, with minimal supplies, food, transport, and fuel.

Some have paid the ultimate price. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, almost 1800 health workers have been killed, and at least 543 aid workers.

WHO’s work has been built on three main pillars.

First, delivering essential health services. WHO is the main provider of medicines and medical supplies in Gaza. Over the past two years, we have provided supplies that have supported more than 22 million treatments and surgeries.

We have coordinated more than 50 emergency medical teams, made up of medical experts from around the world, who have operated field hospitals, clinics and delivered essential services across the full spectrum of health needs.

We have provided almost 17 million litres of fuel to health facilities and ambulances;

And we have supported the treatment of more than 500 severely malnourished children.

The second pillar of our response has been on public health intelligence, early warning and prevention and control of communicable diseases.

Together with our partners, we led a vaccination campaign that protected 600 000 children from polio;

We’re working with over 700 health facilities in Gaza and the West Bank to track the availability of health services and resources;

And we’re working with almost 100 health facilities to monitor and respond to disease outbreaks.

The third pillar of our response is health emergency coordination.

Over the past two years, we have coordinated 88 partners in Gaza and 35 in the West Bank through various technical working groups.

Together, we have provided 31 million consultations, and care for 1.6 million trauma cases and 2.6 million mental health-related cases.

The destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza is immense and will take a long time to rebuild.

The damage to people – physically and mentally – is even worse.

New data from WHO illustrate the extent of the harm that has been done to the people of Gaza and their health system.

In addition to the 66 000 people killed, almost 170 000 people have been injured in Gaza.

WHO estimates that at least one quarter of those have potentially life-changing injuries that require immediate and ongoing rehabilitation.

The most common injuries requiring rehabilitation are blast injuries to legs and arms.

Other major injuries include amputations, burns, spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.

Severe facial and eye injuries are also common, resulting in significant impairment and disfigurement.

Of course, rehabilitation services are also essential for people with noncommunicable diseases and disability.

But just when they are needed most, attacks, insecurity and displacement have put them out of reach.

The explosions that cause these injuries also destroy the health facilities and services needed to deal with them.

Over the past two years, WHO has verified 1719 attacks on health in Gaza and the West Bank, resulting in more than 1000 deaths and 1800 injuries.

Add to that famine in some parts of Gaza, unsanitary living conditions, disease outbreaks and severe ongoing stress.

Many of those with severe injuries and noncommunicable diseases need specialized medical care that is not available in Gaza.

Since the conflict began almost two years ago, WHO has supported the evacuation of 7841 patients for medical treatment outside Gaza.

Since the Rafah crossing was closed in May last year, WHO assumed responsibility for coordinating all medical evacuations.

Most evacuations are for trauma, cancer care, heart disease, eye care and congenital anomalies.

Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan and European Union countries have been the largest recipients of medical evacuees, and I thank all those countries for opening their arms to these patients.

However, about 15 600 patients are still awaiting medical evacuation, including 3800 children.

And at the moment we are only able to conduct evacuations once a week.

I call on more countries to open their arms to these patients;

I call for medical evacuation to be restored to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem;

And I call for the frequency of evacuations to increase.

WHO was in Gaza before this conflict began, we have been there throughout, we will continue to be there as long as this conflict lasts, and when it ends – as all conflicts do – we will be there to help rebuild Gaza’s health system and its people.

But as I always say, the best medicine is peace.

Two years of conflict have brought nothing but death, destruction, disease and despair.

We are dismayed by media reports that Hamas may reject the peace plan.

The most courageous choose peace, so I call on all parties to this conflict to choose peace, now.

Finally, today is Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews.

I wish all those who observe it Gemar chatimah tovah.

May this Yom Kippur bring peace, forgiveness and renewal.

Now to Gaza.

Over the past week, parts of Gaza have come under heavy bombardment, as part of Israel’s military incursion.

If this continues, it could lead to an even worse humanitarian disaster, endangering water and sanitation facilities for nearly 1 million people, many of whom are already facing extreme food deprivation.

As you know, famine was declared in parts of Gaza two weeks ago.

Since the conflict began in October 2023, at least 370 people have died from malnutrition in Gaza, including more than 300 just in the past two months.

And where hunger goes, disease follows.

Lack of food and clean water and cramped living conditions are leaving people with weakened immune systems exposed to more disease.

In the past month, more than 100 cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome have been reported, with 11 deaths – a syndrome that can occur after other infection and lead to paralysis.

WHO is doing the best we can to alleviate suffering, and evacuate those who need urgent medical care outside Gaza.

Since October 2023, WHO has supported the evacuation of over 7640 patients, including 5300 children, and 2660 companions.

But there are still more than 15 000 patients in Gaza who need urgent specialized care, including 3800 children.

More than 700 people have died while waiting for medical evacuation, including almost 140 children.

However, the urgent problem we face is that too few countries are willing to receive them.

We call for countries to open their arms to these critically ill patients.

We call on Israel to allow people to be treated in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where hospitals closer to home can take many patients.

Above all, we call on the Government of Israel to end this inhumane war. If it will not, I call on its allies to use their influence to stop it.

The most intolerable part of this man-made disaster is that it could be stopped right now.

People are starving to death while the food that could save them sits on trucks a short distance away.

Many cases reported in densely populated areas

The World Health Organization ( WHO ), which is alarmed by "a worrying increase" in cases, notes that 30% of patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome must be admitted to an intensive care unit.

According to Gazan health authorities, 64 cases, including 27 in children under 15, have been recorded, according to a count carried out on July 31, 2025, compared to only five cases per year before the escalation of the conflict in October 2023. Of these, 32 cases were recorded in Khan Younis governorate (50%), 28 in Gaza governorate (44%), and four in Deir al Balah governorate (6%).

Although many cases have been reported in densely populated areas, particularly in Khan Younis and Gaza governorates, no clusters of cases have been reported in defined geographical areas. According to the WHO, there is currently no available stock of intravenous immunoglobulin, the main drug used to treat Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The collapse of the hospital system in Gaza has led to the deaths of several thousand people due to a lack of treatment for their illnesses. These deaths are not included in the daily tallies published by the Gazan authorities, which report at least 61,158 Palestinians directly killed by Israeli gunfire or bombardment since the beginning of the war.

What is Guillain-Barré syndrome?

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a neurological and autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system and causes progressive muscle paralysis. This syndrome is not contagious and is often triggered by a previous infection, whether viral or bacterial, that disrupts the immune system.
In most cases, patients can recover without after-effects within a few weeks. However, "even in the best health settings, 3% to 5% of patients die from complications of the disease, such as paralysis of the respiratory muscles, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, or cardiac arrest," summarizes the UN global health agency.

Malnutrition, constant displacement following evacuation orders from the Israeli army, overcrowding in makeshift camps, lack of sanitation and scarcity of drinking water have already caused several epidemics of infectious diseases in the besieged enclave such as polio, cholera, hepatitis A and scabies since the start of the Israeli offensive in October 2023.

420 suspected cases of meningitis

In addition to the outbreak of Guillain-Barré syndrome, the enclave is facing the threat of a bacterial disease. According to OCHA, 420 suspected cases of meningitis were reported during the month of July. This is the "highest number recorded" since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Of these, 197 cases were recorded in Khan Younis governorate, 150 in Gaza governorate, and 73 in Deir al-Balah.

The destruction of the WHO's main medical warehouse in Deir al-Balah has led to a critical shortage of antibiotics, essential for the treatment of meningitis.

To make matters worse, Gaza's hospitals are also overwhelmed by "an influx of wounded that is beyond their capacity."

Acute malnutrition

Meanwhile, the worsening famine observed in recent weeks in the Palestinian enclave has brought the total number of Palestinians who have died from malnutrition to 193 people, including 96 children, according to a count carried out on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

This figure includes five people who died in hospitals the day before yesterday, Tuesday.

Nearly 12,000 children under five in Gaza were suffering from acute malnutrition in July, the highest monthly figure ever recorded, according to the Nutrition Cluster.

The 2.1 million people trapped in the war zone that is Gaza are facing yet another killer on top of bombs and bullets: starvation.

We are now witnessing a deadly surge in malnutrition-related deaths.

Since July 17th, severe acute malnutrition centres are full, without sufficient supplies for emergency feeding.

In 2025, WHO has documented 21 deaths related to malnutrition of children under five-years-old.

Rates of global acute malnutrition exceed 10 percent, and over 20 percent of pregnant and breastfeeding women that have been screened are malnourished, often severely.

The hunger crisis is being accelerated by the collapse of aid pipelines and restrictions on access.

Ninety-five percent of households in Gaza face severe water shortages, with daily access far below the minimum needed for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.

The UN and humanitarian partners were unable to deliver any food to the Gaza Strip for nearly 80 consecutive days – from early March to mid-May 2025 – due to a complete blockade on humanitarian and commercial access.

Since then, food deliveries have resumed intermittently but remain far below what is needed for the survival of the population.

Food distribution sites have become places of violence.

From the 27th of May to the 21st of July, health authorities report 1026 people have been killed in Gaza while trying to get food from these sites.
