    The worst situation is in Lurigancho prison where 442 inmates have the disease.

    The overcrowding and chaos prevailing in the 65 prisons in the country are the perfect setting for the advancement of dangerous diseases. One of the most feared-and-contagious is tuberculosis.

    According to figures from the National Penitentiary Institute ( INPE ), until 2011 there had been 1.214 cases of TB in Peruvian prisons.

    The most serious situation, as expected, we live in Lurigancho, which has 442 inmates affected with evil. That situation threatens not only the prisoners but also to visitors.

    Campaign
    To cope with the TBC , the Ministry of Health launched yesterday in Lurigancho Genotype system, which will help diagnose the disease in 48 hours. The results can be displayed in 72 hours with the electronic information system Net Lab, National Institute of Health.

    KNOW THAT

    - There are 52.700 prisoners * in the country, according to data from INPE to December 2011.

    - The most overcrowded prison is Lurigancho with 6.485 prisoners.

    - To rule out TB , samples were taken yesterday to 500 inmates.
