Indramayu – Livestock Service (Distankan) stated fifty percent of Kabupaten Indramayu, West Java province, as bird flu endemic area.
The disease is feared to spread among birds during rainy season. According to 2011 data of Distankan Kabupaten Indramayu, of 31 sub-districts, 18 are bird flu endemic. The endemic status was made based on the bird death data.
Those 18 sub-districts are Kecamatan Sukagumiwang, Lelea, Widasari, Haurgeulis, Kandanghaur, Kroya, Indramayu, Juntinyuat, Krangkeng, Bongas, Tukdana, Sukra, Cantigi, Anjatan, Karangampel, Sindang, Arahan, and Kedokan Bunder, with largest casualty in Kecamatan Tukdana, said Head of Distankan Kabupaten Indramayu, Nanang Hidayat.
Within last two weeks there were several bird flu cases in birds, but the incident had been under control, said Nanang. Crucial steps to suppress loss are, he added, to enhance disinfection, vaccination and public socialization.
Even though number of cases is reducing in last years, Distankan Indramayu is still aware to possible endemic to occur. Largest bird death occurred in 2007with 1,000 casualties and 2008 with 700.
