Department of Agriculture and Livestock (Dispertanak) Nunukan officially released the latest news about the spread of bird flu or avian influenza (H5N1) in Nunukan. From a series of deaths of poultry breeds of chickens two months ago, some of which tested positive for the bird flu virus.
"There are some samples that we sent for lab test conducted in Banjarmasin. Result is quite surprising, is among the positive samples infected with the bird flu virus," said Rais Kahar, Head of Animal Health and Public Health at Dispertanak Nunukan.
He continued, preventive measures taken Dispertanak currently quite limited. "Usually, when the bird flu virus is attacking the area, other chickens around it can quickly come infected. But this time, only a few chickens just attacked," he said.
