  • Indonesian authorities say H5N1 2.3.2 bird flu outbreak ?has only infected ducks?

JAKARTA - Vice Chairman of the DPP Gerindra Fadli Zon said the bird flu virus H5N1 Clade 2.3.2 was an outbreak in 12 provinces and has caused more than 420 thousand dead duck.
"Total loss is estimated at Rp115 billion," said Secretary General of the Council of Leaders National Association of Indonesian Farmers (HKTI) this Tuesday (15/1). Fadli said the government should immediately establish a special status as a national epidemic outbreaks. Besides causing loss to farmers ducks, the virus has the potential to infect humans. "As I've reported in the PRC, Hong Kong and Bangladesh," he said. On the other hand, continued Fadli, this should be a correction of the government in this case the Ministry of Agriculture in particular the Directorate General of Livestock perform security control and distribution of poultry. "Could be, less control poultry farm service entrance. All birds coming from abroad should be checked and strictly supervised," he said. said Fadli, if this has been done, but the virus can still get in, do not close the possibility of illegal poultry trade from outside country. "The government should be faster anticipation spread of this virus," he said. because, he said, the loss is the general public especially the duck farmers who depend their lives from there. The original Indonesian is "dari 420 ribu" for anyone who might speak it. Google Translator tells me that "ribu" is thousand. So to me, it's either 420,000, or possibly 1,420 (420 + 1,000).

Google translator translates both "420 ribu" and "ribu 420" as "420 thousand" for what it's worth.

Re: Already "420 Thousand" Dead Ducks Attacked Bird Flu

420 thousand dead duck. It was already reported as over 350,000. This is a low number, as I can't post all the dead bird reports. 750,000 I say, and will go higher mainly because..

There is no vaccine for weeks and no guarantee it will actually be effective.

Using the old vaccine that has to be doubled up on, is running out.

The use of an old vaccine to fight the new strain will lead to unpleasantries.

1/3rd of reports say the new strain doesn't attack chickens and humans can't get infected.

1/3rd of reports say the total of birds killed or dying are not reported, due to farmers selling the sick birds or throwing them in the river, beside the road or feeding to the fish.

1/3rd of reports say the birds were sick with intelos or newtown disease or bad weather or firecrackers or storms or bad food or fowl cholera or volcanoes or were killed by something other than bird flu AND ARE NOT ACTUALLY COUNTED as KILLED DURING THIS OUTBREAK.

and yes there is a link to all of the above somewhere.

The last sudden case of chicken deaths in NTB took place in November 2012 in East Lombok regency, but after a series of tests, the deaths were not linked to the bird flu virus.

?It turned out that the 300 chickens died due to the change of weather,? he said, calling on residents to immediately report any sudden poultry deaths in their areas to the authorities. http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2...provinces.html

                    Wednesday, January 16, 2013 19:14 PM

Poultry infected with bird flu can still be consumed as long as the terms are properly cooked, said Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Department of Agriculture Haris Handono Yogyakarta.
"Although the chicken or poultry or could potentially have contracted bird flu can still be consumed by the public as long as it was cooked with the right terms," he said in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.

By boiling chicken or poultry to 100 degrees Celsius, he said, it is certain the virus of Avian Influenza (AI) or bird flu in poultry is dead.
"As long as they have been boiled to 100 degrees Celsius is likely safe for consumption," he said.
Therefore, he said, for the good of consumers or sellers hawking culinary poultry meat does not need to be alarmed and worried. However, if it relates to economic reasons, it is not a problem for consumption because the virus can still be turned off... http://translate.google.com/translat...dium%3Dtwitter

Indonesian bird flu outbreak “has only infected ducks”

JAKARTA, 17 January 2013 (IRIN) - Indonesian health officials have downplayed concerns over a fresh outbreak of avian influenza which has killed some 160,000 reared ducks since September 2012.

“So far no Indonesians have been infected by the new clade [virus group] of the H5N1 virus,” Tjandra Yoga Aditama, the director of disease control and public health at the Health Ministry, told IRIN.

“The outbreak has only affected ducks. There have been no known cases in humans,” said Muhammad Azhar, coordinator of the Avian Influenza Disease Control Unit. "We have taken necessary measures to control the outbreak."

“The origin of the infection was apparently uncertified imported ducks,” said Emil Agustiono, head of the National Commission on Zoonosis.
