Bird flu alert
Referral hospitals
DEFINITIONS
Avian influenza is an infectious disease caused by influenza viruses that are transmitted by birds that can infect humans. Another name of this disease including avian influenza.
CASE DEFINITION
1. Suspected cases
Suspect cases is a person suffering from respiratory infection with symptoms of fever (temp> 38 ? C), cough and or sore throat or runny nose and was with one condition;
visited the ranch last week's outbreak of bird flu outbreaks
contact with confirmed cases of bird flu in the transmission
worked at a processing lab specimens are human or animal suspected of suffering from bird flu
2. The case of "probable"
Case "probale" is a suspect case with one of the state;
limited laboratory evidence that leads to the influenza virus A (H5N1), for example: HI test using H5N1 antigen
in a short time went into respiratory pneumonialgagal / death
proved there is no other cause
3. Case Kompermasi
Kompermasi case is suspect cases or "probale" supported by one of the results of laboratory tests;
H5N1 influenza virus culture positive
PCR influenza (H5) positive
Increased H5 antibody titer by 4 times
CLINICAL SYMPTOMS
Encountered clinical symptoms such as flu-like symptoms in general, ie: fever, sore throat. cough, had a runny nose, muscle aches, headache, weakness. In a short time this disease can become more severe form of inflammation in the lungs (pneumonia), and if not done properly managing could cause death.
Aetiology AND NATURE
Aetiology of these diseases are influenza viruses. The nature of this virus, namely; can survive in water up to 4 days at 22 ? C and more than 30 days at 0 ? C.
In the feces of poultry and the sick body can survive longer, but die at 60 ? C heating for 30 minutes.
Known for some types of influenza viruses, ie: type A, type B and type C. Inluenza type A virus consists of several strains, namely; H1N 1, H3N2, H5N1, H7N7, H9N2 and others.
Currently, the cause was bird flu Avian Influenza Highly Pothogenic Viru, strains of H5N1 (H = hemagglutinin; N = neuraminidase). This can be seen from basil studies have shown that sick birds excrete the virus influenza A (H5N1) with a large amount of feces. Inluenza virus A (H5N1) is the cause of bird flu outbreaks in poultry. In general, avian influenza virus does not infect humans, but some may experience a certain type of mutation is more vicious and attack people.
INCUBATION PERIOD
The incubation period of influenza virus varies between 1? 7 days.
SOURCES AND METHODS transmission
Transmission of Avian influenza (H5N1) in poultry occurred rapidly with high mortality. The spread of this disease occurred among poultry populations pertenakan one, even it can spread from one farm pertenakan to other regions. While transmission of the disease to humans can be contaminated airborne virus, both originating from the stool or secretary bird flu infected poultry. As for those who have a big risk for bird flu (H5N1) is a poultry farm workers, vendors and penjamah poultry.
Another thing, there is no evidence of transmission occurs from person to person. Besides that, not evidence of transmission to humans through the consumption of poultry meat.
PREVENTION EFFORTS
Prevention efforts done by avoiding contaminated materials poultry feces and secretions, with the following actions:
Every person associated with the material originating from poultry gastrointestinal should use protection (mask, swimming goggles)
Material originating from the digestive tract, such as poultry manure should be well ditatalaksana (buried / burned) in order not to be a source of infection for those around it.
The tools used in the farm must be washed with disinfectant
Cages and feces should not be removed from the location of the farm
Eat meat chicken cooked at a temperature of 80 ? C for 1 minute, while the eggs of poultry should be heated at a temperature of 64 ? C for 5 minutes.
Environmental hygiene.
Conducting personal hygiene.
