Results of the Lab did not yet go out, Team took the New Sample

LHOKSEUMAWE - till Sunday (17/12), did not yet have the official statement from the Government whether the mass death of the livestock in the Acehinese region North since some last time positive bird flu or not.

Even so the community that was forced to be treated in the hospital, also did not yet have confirmation whether because terifenksi this deadly virus or because of the other factor.

The newest report mentioned, Tim Task Force (the national task force for the case of bird flu) that was in Aceh North since the last two days descended to subdistricts that were expected affected by bird flu.

Moreover, on the Saturday (16/12), this team suddenly sent the sample of chicken blood and the patient that it was suspected were attacked by bird flu.

The sample of the blood has arrived in the Infection Hospital (RSPI) Jakarta,? said Director RSUD Cut Meutia Lhokseumawe, Dr Hamdani Oesman.

About the sample of blood of the husband and wife's couple Tgk M. Said-Hj Asiah, villagers Meunasah Keudee Blang Jruen, the Subdistrict of the Area Land that was sent to Medan around last week, till yesterday has not still been received by results. Tgk M. Since the last two days, Tim Task Force that numbering eight people (was bisected the group) was helped the element of the Acehinese Regional Government North, the Health Service of the NAD Province, and the side of RSUD descended to villages.
Whereas one other team alert in RSUD Cut Meutia examined patients that was in the intensive maintenance.

In handling the case of this bird flu, said Hamdani, two from several of the team's members standby in the hospital, including the team from the Centre (Jakarta).

            The Medan chicken

Several sources suspected, the spreading of bird flu in Aceh North and the Lhokseumawe City lately was related to the number of sendings of the layer hen that has been unproductive from Medan to Aceh.
The hen that has been unproductive that was sold to Aceh as the piece chicken.

Weekly, thousands of layer hens from Medan entered Aceh and not impossible there are those that has been infected by the bird flu virus ,? Ridwan's words (30), a citizen of the Jambo Aye Land, Aceh North.

Necessarily, said Ridwan, the government must stress arranged the trade in the poultry, including the chicken.
Uptil now, added Ridwan, the government only dropped the team off to prevent bird flu, whereas the trade in the chicken like not all that was supervised.
? If only counselling, while his trade was not supervised tightly, was difficult to interrupt the virus link that disturbing that, ? firm Ridwan.

Several chicken traders in the Lhokseumawe City that was contacted the Serami News, yesterday claimed really was affected with the case of bird flu, even the sale of the piece chicken plummeted.
However, some people apparently did not care about the case.

The chicken trader admitted to being accepted the chicken that was brought from Medan, like the layer that has been unproductive to be sold as the piece chicken.
But the trader was sure the chicken that was sent to Aceh was still being very fresh and was ascertained free bird flu.

As being reported yesterday, in time not all that 10 days, the assumption of the case of bird flu in Aceh North has spread in 11 subdistricts that terindikasi from even more of them the poultry that died was followed by the patient's increase that must be treated in the hospital.

Till Saturday (16/12), four other subdistricts that it was suspected were attacked by the deadly virus were the Geudong ocean, Sawang, the Sand Land, and Nibong.

Bird flu hits Indonesia's tsunami-battered Aceh

JAKARTA, Dec 21, 2006 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Avian Influenza has infected tens of thousands of fowls in Aceh province, which was devastated by tsunami in December 2004, an Indonesian Health Ministry official said here Thursday.

After infecting scores of chickens in one district in North Aceh regency at the end of December last year, the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus now has contracted tens of thousands of chickens in seven districts of the regency, said Suyono, a member of the investigation team of the ministry for combating avian flu, who has just returned from the province.

Mahrozar, an official of the health department of the North Aceh regency, said all preventive measures had been taken to prevent the virus from spreading.

The Indonesian health ministry has ordered to slaughter all poultry in radius of one kilometer and to vaccinate all of them in radius of three kilometers.

                      Re: Indonesia - Aceh (Sumatra)

Hat tip for the Indonesian Committee for BF

16 Suspect Cases in North Aceh Test Negative for Bird Flu

Tests conducted at laboratories at the Ministry of Health Research and Development Center and NAMRU-2, using RT-PCR (Real Time-Polymirase Chain Reaction) and serology, have shown that samples taken from 16 suspect human H5N1 influenza cases in North Aceh regency are negative for the H5N1 avian influenza virus. Based on testing of samples taken from the 16 patients treated at Cut Meutia Hospital, one of the patients has tested positive for type A Influenza (common flu), and two patients are positive for type B Influenza (common flu).

The above information is based on a report on bird flu developments in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam Province received by the Public Communication Center from the Bird Flu Communication Center at the Ministry of Health, on Tuesday, December 20, 2006.

The Bird Flu Communication Center reported that the findings of the investigation into the 16 suspect cases revealed that 10 of the suspect cases had had contact with dead fowl, 1 person had not had any contact with fowl; there was no clear evidence to establish whether or not the other 5 patients were in contact with fowl.

Of the 16 suspect cases, those treated at Cut Mutia Hospital and found to have been in contact with dead fowl are Ai (50 years, Female) admitted on December 11, 2006; RU (50 years, Male) admitted on December 14, 2006; S (60 years, F) admitted on December 13, 2006; FZ (50 years, F) of Cut Ketapang Village, admitted on December 16, 2006; N (50 years, M), Sa (55 years, F) of Sawang admitted on December 14, 2006; IF (7 years, F) of Ampe Village, admitted on December 14, 2006; RZ (16 years, M) of Kampung Jawa Lama village, admitted on December 16, 2006; RD (10 years, M) of Ampe Village, admitted on December 13, 2006; and N (20 years, F) of Ampe Village, admitted on December 14, 2006.

Contact with fowl could not be proven for five suspect cases: NZ (M), An (F), F (F), I (M), and M (F). Finally, F (9 years, F) of Cut Ketapang Village, who was admitted to the Hospital on December 15, 2006, was found to have not been in contact with any fowl.

The emergence of bird-flu cases in poultry in Aceh Utara Regency is worth noting. Poor hygiene and sanitation, a lack of information on bird flu and a lack of information about the recent massive and sudden death of fowl in the area have all contributed to the emergence and spread of bird-flu cases in poultry in Aceh Utara Regency. However, so far there has not been an emergence of human bird-flu cases in 7 affected sub-districts in North Aceh regency; there is no evidence suggesting that the disease has been transmitted from fowl to human beings. Up to this moment, the bird-flu virus affects fowl only.

The Bird Flu Communication Center reports that until December 20, 2006, there have been 74 confirmed human H5N1 cases in Indonesia, 57 of which have died; there have also been 12 probable cases, 4 of which died; 253 suspect cases, 57 of which died; 1 exposed case, and 539 cases which have tested negative for the H5N1 virus.

In Indonesia, bird-flu positive cases have occurred in 9 provinces: DKI (18 cases, 16 of which died), Banten (9 cases, 8 died), West Java (25 cases, 20 died), Central Java (4 cases, 3 died), East Java (5 cases, 3 died), North Sumatera (7 cases, 6 died), South Sulawesi (1 case died), Lampung (3 cases, all survived), and West Sumatera (2 cases all survived).

                          From post # 17:

Whereas the husband and wife's couple, Tgk M. Said and Hj Asiah from the Meunasah Keudee Blang Jruen Village, the Subdistrict of the Area Land that was the first patient that terindikasi bird flu, it was reported came home they after approximately a week was treated and still not had the assurance of the case that they were natural.

Learned the husband and wife's couple has left the hospital, Tim the Fast Movement (Task Force) was forced to pursue them for the taking of the sample of blood. Unclear why M. Said and Asiah were permitted to come home.

                          Samples were taken, no results?
