Kolkata: Swine flu has claimed an elderly woman in a suburb of Kolkata.
The deceased, Mukul Biswas, was a resident of Mondalpara locality at Maheshtala in South 24-Parganas district.

Octogenarian Biswas was running a fever and cough for the last few days. On 19 March her family got her admitted to a private hospital at Salt Lake. There she was tested positive for swine flu (H1N1).

Doctors have dubbed the spate of unseasonal swine flu deaths ominous.
The resident of Putkhali in Maheshtala was first admitted to the hospital in February with fever and breathing distress. At that time she did not test positive for H1N1 and was subsequently discharged. But with her condition deteriorating, she was taken back to AMRI on March 19.
