    Swine flu strikes Tiruchy after a year as 51-year-old woman dies in hospital


    TIRUCHY: Swine flu has again showed up in the city after nearly a year as a 51-year-old woman died of H1N1 viral infection despite treatment in a private hospital, on Thursday. According to sources,
    K Umayavalli, a resident of Karumandapam, was admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchy after her health started suddenly deteriorating. As there was no improvement in her condition, medical tests were conducted. The test reports revealed she was affected by the H1N1 virus. Later, she was taken to another private hospital for further treatment. However, she succumbed to the infection.

    Seasonal flu cases on upward swing in Tamil Nadu

    Twenty-five new cases and one death has been reported in last two months, while a large number of patients required intensive care due to the disease.

    Chennai: The predictions of flu-trackers indicating a high incidence of seasonal flu in Tamil Nadu are coming true as the state is witnessing an increase in the number of cases.

    Tamil Nadu has witnessed more than 65 cases and two deaths up to April 24 this year as per the recent data released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

      Chennai: Cases of Swine flu are once again making the rounds in the State, but top officials have said that public need not worry about the communicable disease.

      According to data from Union Health Ministry, 65 cases and two deaths have been recorded already. However, officials have asked people not to panic as several precautionary measures have been laid out.

        Coimbatore: Jamaluddin, 42, succumbed to flu without responding to the treatment at a private hospital in Erode district, on Saturday night. Police said, few days ago Jamaluddin, underwent a heart operation in the private hospital in Erode district and recently he developed a respiratory problem.

        ?Two days ago, as he developed severe breathlessness, his family members again brought him to the same hospital, in Erode district for an examination. They believed he would have developed complications in the heart. A diagnosis of blood and urine samples revealed that Jamaluddin was affected by swine flu,? police said.

          Two persons from the Nilgiris have died of swine flu in the past 10 days.

          On Monday, Abdul Rahman, 43, a deputy tahsildar working with the Nilgiris district administration, died at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) after contracting the H1N1 virus.

          Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. S. Porkudi, Deputy Director of Health Services, Nilgiris district, said that 10 days ago, a 60-year-old woman from Melur in Coonoor died from congestive cardiac failure. ?After running tests, it became clear that she had contracted swine flu,? Dr. Porkudi said.

                MADURAI / NAGERCOIL: Two women died while six others were admitted with symptoms of swine flu. Meenakshi, a middle-aged woman who had tested positive for Swine Flu (H1N1), succumbed to the infection on Friday, while Veerammal (70), who was being treated at the special ward in Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), died on Saturday night.

                Confirming the deaths, the dean of Madurai Medical College, D Maruthupandian, said Veerammal was treated in the special ward but that she had tested negative for H1N1.

                  The seven-year-old twins, Thaksan and Thikka, were admitted to the Dengue fever in Sullivakumar-Gajalakshmi couple of Santoshnagar area in Madavaram at Ezhumpur Government Hospital in Chennai. Last week, they suffered a stroke and died due to the lack of treatment.


                  Similarly, Salem Government Hospital has been treated with swine flu symptoms for 2 persons. 2 people died in swine flu in Madurai state hospital In Nagercoil, a retired teacher died of swine flu.


                  In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Secretary Radhakrishnan told the media today in Ezhumpur that the fever should be treated. In the state of Tamil Nadu this year, there have been five deaths due to dengue and 11 deaths due to swine flu.

                  840 people who have been given fake medicine have been caught. He said that private doctors would be advised on how to deal with the dengue fever.

                    Three die of swine flu in State, U.T.

                    Two women who died in the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai in the past three days had tested positive for swine flu.
                    At least four persons who have tested positive for swine flu and two more with symptoms of the disease are presently undergoing treatment at an isolation ward in the hospital.
                    While officials have confirmed that the death of Meenakshi, 40, of Pykara, was due to H1N1 infection, they said the other patient, R. Veerammal, 70, of Karumbalai, who died on Saturday night, had tested negative for the virus.

Manoharan, 45, of Ramanathapuram district was admitted to the private hospital with high fever and breathing problems on Tuesday morning However, he succumbed in the evening. Augustine Rathinam, 70, of Karaikudi who was admitted to the hospital on Sunday also succumbed on Tuesday.

Nazrudeen from Kumbakonam was admitted to a local hospital with a severe fever last week and shifted to the Tiruchy hospital on Monday as his condition worsened and he showed symptoms of swine flu. ?Though the patient was diagnosed with the H1N1 infection at an early stage, his life couldn?t be saved. But the family appealed to doctors to save Suganya in some way.

                            So Suganya was continuously being treated. Even so, Sugnya died sympathetically before yesterday without treatment. A pregnant woman who suffered a swine flu in pregnancy and a child in a miscarriage has caused tragedy in the Takalawa area.
