    CMCH has 34 patients taking treatment for H1N1

    The Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Friday refuted reports that close to 40 H1N1 patients were undergoing treatment there and said only 34 for patients were getting treatment for the flu. Only patients in the H1N1 ward get reported," he said.Hospital authorities said there were 34 patients as on Friday night -- 29 from Coimbatore and the remaining from Erode and Nilgiris. "As the H1N1 ward is full, many patients are shifted to the fever wards and a room near the ICU," said a doctor. "Only three of 34 are tested positive for the virus," they said.Earlier this week, the number of patients undergoing treatment for H1N1 in the CMCH had touched 39, forcing it to move some patients to the fever ward or a step down intensive care unit. "The figure is inclusive of all patients being treated for the flu in all wards," said resident medical officer, Dr A Soundaravel.

        Woman dies of A(H1N1) at CMCH

        A(H1N1) influenza has claimed one more life at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
        Hospital authorities said Selvi (35) of Pongalur in Tirupur died of the influenza on Tuesday afternoon. She had pneumonia also.
        This year, 22 persons who underwent treatment at CMCH for the influenza have died. Officials, however, say this includes patients who died of other ailments though they were admitted at the special ward set up for treating A(H1N1) cases. ?As per official records, only two persons have died of A(H1N1)at CMCH,? said Resident Medical Officer R. Soundravel. According to hospital authorities, 122 people had tested positive for A(H1N1) at CMCH till February 28. Of this, 115 were adult cases and seven paediatric cases.

                Woman dies of A (H1N1) influenza

                A 46-year-old woman from Palani, who was undergoing treatment for A (H1N1) influenza at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), died on Monday.
                Sumathi, wife of Dharmaraj from Periyappa Nagar of Palani, was admitted to the hospital on March 1. As per official records, this is the third death due to A (H1N1) influenza at CMCH. As of Monday, CMCH has 11 positive cases of A (H1N1) influenza.

                  62-year-old dies of H1N1 in Coimbatore

                  A 62-year-old man died of A (H1N1) influenza at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital late on Tuesday.
                  The deceased was identified as Rathinasamy, son of Karuppanna Gounder, from Lawley Road, Coimbatore. CMCH authorities said Rathinasamy was brought to the hospital on Saturday on referral from a private hospital. His condition deteriorated on Tuesday and he died by midnight. With his death, the number of persons who died while being treated for A(H1N1) influenza at CMCH has increased to 27 this year. Of them, 22 were natives of Coimbatore while others were from Dindigul, Erode, Tirupr and the Nilgiris.
                  According to official records, only five persons actually died of the disease.

                    A 68-year-old woman from Puththan Tharuvai near Sattankulam in Thoothukudi district died of swine flu at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) on Tuesday.
                    Sources at the TVMCH said R. Mariya Gracy, a diabetic with some heart ailment, was admitted to a private hospital here with breathing problem on Sunday. She was referred to the TVMCH on Monday with suspected symptoms of swine flu and the clinical investigations confirmed it.
                    Though Gracy was undergoing treatment at the isolated ward for H1N1 virus causing swine flu, she breathed her last on Tuesday.

                        CMCH authorities said that Manickam, son of Ramasamy from Somandurai Chittoor near Pollachi,
                        was admitted with symptoms of the disease on March 4 at the hospital. He was later tested positive for the virus.
                        With the death of Manickam, the number of persons died of the disease at CMCH has increased to 28 this year. According to CMCH authorities, less than ten people have died of the disease at the hospital as per official records.

                              A 52-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment for A (H1N1) influenza for six days at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) died on Thursday.

                              CMCH authorities said that Ranganayagi, wife of Anand from Maniyakarampalayam near Ganapathy, was admitted on June 17 after being referred from a private hospital here in the city. They said the patient tested positive for the flu at the private hospital itself. On Thursday, her condition deteriorated around 3.30 p.m.

                              Doctors at CMCH said the woman had no recent travel history, which meant that she had contracted the flu virus locally.

                                Swine flu: Tamil Nadu records 3,000 cases of H1N1 virus, the highest in country

                                The southern state of Tamil Nadu recorded close to 3,000 cases of H1N1 influenza virus since January 2017 - the highest in the country.
                                Maharashtra, with 300 deaths out of the 2,738 cases reported, is the worst hit in terms of mortality. The state of Gujarat, which recorded 75 deaths out of 289 infections, is the second-worst affected, followed by Kerala (63 deaths out of 1,127 reported cases) and Rajasthan (59 out of 407 succumbed to H1N1 complications. Telangana and Tamil Nadu registered 17 and 15 deaths respectively.
