  • India: 3 new deaths, 524 deaths confirmed, 161 new cases

    Three more deaths due to swine flu were reported Sunday taking India's toll due to Influenza A (H1N1) virus to 524, health department officials said here.

    A total of 161 new cases were also reported in the country, pushing the total number of people affected with the virus to 15,424.


    Of the three deaths, two were reported from Maharashtra and one from Kerala. With the two deaths, Maharashtra's total toll has gone up to 213 - the highest in the country.

    Of the 161 new cases, 96 were from Rajasthan and 26 from Delhi.

    Till date, Delhi has recorded a total of 3,761 cases of swine flu, which is only behind 3,796 cases in Maharashtra. As many as 18 people have died in the national capital so far due to swine flu.

    'Of the 161 cases, only three have foreign travel history and the rest are indigenous cases,' said an official statement here.

    The first swine flu case was recorded in India May 16, while the first death occurred Aug 3.

    'Till date, samples from 79,272 people have been tested for Influenza A (H1N1) in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country, and 15,424 of them have been found positive,' the statement added.

    Three swine flu deaths were reported Monday, taking the total toll due to Influenza A (H1N1) virus to 526 in India, health authorities said here.

    At least 139 new cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of people affected with the contagious virus to 15,563.


    On Monday, two deaths were reported in Rajasthan and one in Maharashtra.


    With the fresh cases, the toll in Rajasthan has gone up to 23. The state also recorded 35 new cases Monday, taking the total number affected to 518.


    The latest death in Maharashtra took the state's toll to 214 - the highest in India.


    The state reported the first swine flu casualty in the country Aug 3.


    New cases were reported from Tamil Nadu (24), Kerala (23), Delhi (14), Haryana (14), Karnataka (10) and Gujarat (1).
