Swine Flu death toll reaches 33 in K?taka; 602 Test positive since Jan

In Karnataka, 33 people have died and 602 confirmed positive of swine flu since January this year.

Health Department official Dr. Parimala told AIR Bengaluru Correspondent that nine people died of swine flu in January and 24 this month.

Two people aged 72 and 80 died of H1N1 influenza in Chitradurga and Davangere on last Wednesday.

Swine Flu Death Toll Reaches 25 in Karnataka; 372 Test Positive

Swine flu killed six more people in Karnataka on Tuesday, taking the death toll from the airborne disease to 25 till date.

Three fatalities were reported from areas under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), while Tumkuru, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban witnessed one death each, The Hindu reported.
At present, 372 people are being treated for H1N1 in the state, according to The New Indian Express.

Mangaluru: Swine flu under control in state, says Khadar; 18 deaths so far

Mangaluru, Feb 16: Health and family welfare minister U T Khadar on Monday February 16 allayed fears about spread of H1N1 (swine flu) in the state and said that the disease has been brought under control.

Addressing a press meet at Circuit House here, Khadar said, "People need not fear about H1N1, but they should take precautions and cooperate with the health authorities.

"The disease has been brought under control in the state because of everyone's efforts. So far, 1,157 samples have been tested out of which 285 have turned out positive. Out of 285 confirmed cases, 173 (patients) have already recovered after medication and 15 are still suffering from high fever. Another 74 are in various hospitals. Altogether, there have been 18 deaths from swine flu in the state so far, out of which eight deaths were in January, nine in February and one was an old case," he explained.

Woman dies of H1N1 in Hubballi

A 24-year-old woman from Nekar Nagar in Hubballi died of H1N1 at a private hospital here on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan told presspersons here that her death was confirmed to be from H1N1 during laboratory testing.
Besides, one more case of suspected H1N1 was reported from Kuruvinakoppa village in Kalghatagi taluk where a 77-year-old man was found to be infected with the virus. He was undergoing treatment at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences and his condition was said to be improving.
Mr. Cholan said stern action would be taken against those selling H1N1 vaccine above the maximum retail price.

Two deaths, three test positive for A(H1N1)

The city has so far reported two deaths of persons diagnosed with influenza A (H1N1). While the first death was of a tourist from Gujarat, another was of a person from neighbouring Kasaragod.

According to District Health Officer Ramakrishna Rao, Anjana Patel (40), a native of Gujarat, had come down to attend a funeral of her relative here in December third week. After she reported fever and headache, she was taken to a private hospital near Kudroli temple and then moved to another private hospital in K.S. Rao Road, where she died in January first week.

Another death was of Brijesh (33) of Kasaragod. Mr. Brijesh, who had returned from Dubai, had symptoms of influenza and was taken to primary health centre in Kerala?s Vellarikkundu on January 29 and from there to a hospital in Kanhangad. Mr. Brijesh was then brought to a private hospital in the city where he died on February 9.

Man dies of A(H1N1) in Chitradurga, three suspected cases in Belagavi district

The death of a man due to A(H1N1) influenza was reported in Chitradurga district and three were suspected to have been affected by the virus in Belagavi district on Wednesday.
Chitradurga District Health Officer Mahalingappa told presspersons that there were two confirmed cases of A(H1N1) in the district and the second person was being treated. Steps had been taken to open separate wards in government and private hospitals and medicines, including triple layer masks and other material, had been stored.
A total of 36 cases have been reported from 2009 till date in the district. As many as 17 persons died and the remaining recovered. Tests were conducted on 139 persons. Tests were conducted on 10 persons in 2012 and four were confirmed. In 2013, only one suspected case was reported from the district and in 2014 four cases were reported from the district, he added. Helplines had been opened and the numbers were 08194-235657, 82775-18666 and 94498-43250, he added.

24 fresh H1N1 cases reported in State

As many as 24 fresh swine flu cases were reported in the State on Tuesday while the BBMP confirmed yet another death due to the flu.

The death was reported on Monday and following investigations the Palike confirmed that it was a case of swine flu. The deceased was identified as Prema, a 51-year-old resident of Subbanna Gardens near Vijayanagar. She succumbed to the flu on February 9 at Apollo Hospitals where she was admitted for treatment, said a BBMP Official. With this, the death toll due to swine flu has gone up to seven in the City, in a span of two months.

Swine Flu Kills 9 in Karnataka; 50 New Cases Reported in Bengaluru

Bengaluru reported three more deaths on Saturday. A 70-year-old patient named Jayalakshmi succumbed to the virus at the Srikrishna Seva Ashrama Hospital in Jayanagar. The other deaths in Bengaluru came from Yashomathi Hospital, Varthur Road and Apollo Hospital in Jayanagar. The victims were identified to be 41-year-old Muniyenappa and 49-year-old Ramakrishna, respectively.


The Srikrishna Seva Ashrama Hospital in Jayanagar reported its first death on 1 February, when a 45-year-old woman named Krishnaveli, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital

A 19-year-old girl died of A (H1N1) influenza at a private hospital in Vijayapura on Sunday while a woman from Kottalachinta village coming under Raravi Public Health Centre in Sirguppa taluk in Ballari is suspected to have been affected by the virus. With this, the number of people who have died of the disease has gone up to seven in the State.
Ashwini Jhalaki was a native of Nimbal village of Indi taluk. According to Vijayapura Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep, 10 suspected cases had been reported in the district. Six are being treated.

A(H1N1): death toll in city raises to six

Eleven new A(H1N1) positive cases were reported in the State on Sunday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 106. Of the 11, nine were reported positive from the city-based Manipal Hospital Laboratory at the HAL Airport Road.
Health Minister U.T. Khader said that the toll in the State stood at nine, of which six are from the city.
He said the department was yet to collate where and when the deaths were reported and said that the details would be announced on Monday.
While officials in Vijayapura said that a 19-year-old girl died on Sunday, Health Department officials here said they had no information on it.

Bengaluru sees 3 more swine flu deaths

BENGALURU: Three more H1N1 deaths were reported from various hospitals in Bengaluru on Saturday, taking the toll in Karnataka to six. The number of people reported to be suffering from swine flu in the state has been put at 20.

The deaths reported on Saturday had occurred in January and in the first few days of February.

Woman from Chitradurga dies of H1N1 in Manipal

Manipal, 07 Feb 2015: A 48-year-old woman from Chitradurga district succumbed at the KMC Hospital in Manipal on Friday. With this the number of H1N1 deaths in Karnataka has shot up to three.

It is also said that two other patients are being treated at KMC Hospital, Manipal, for swine flu.

H1N1 kills 3 in Karnataka

BENGALURU: Karnataka has recorded three H1N1 deaths, including one in Bengaluru, in two days.
The first death - that of a 52-year-old former tahasildar from Bidar - occurred on Thursday. "He had travelled to Andhra Pradesh and was first hospitalized there. He died in Bidar. He tested positive for H1N1 virus," said health department officials.

On Friday evening, swine flu claimed one life each in Bengaluru and Chitradurga. While the virus claimed a 35-year-old woman from Hoskote who was admitted to the Vaidehi Institute of Medical Sciences, a 48-year-old woman from Chitradurga district succumbed at the KMC Hospital in Manipal.

The Bidar and Bengaluru cases had a common link: the victims had contracted the virus in Andhra Pradesh.
