    Punjab has reported the first swine flu death of the year with a 55-year-old woman succumbing to the H1N1 virus at a hospital in Amritsar on Tuesday.

    Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Sandhu Colony at Batala road in Amritsar, was admitted to the hospital in a very critical condition on January 17 last week, Dr. H.P. Singh from Escorts Fortis Hospitals said.

    AMRITSAR: Barely a week after swine flu claimed its first victim of the season in Amritsar, also the first in Punjab, a 50-year-old Tarn Taran woman died of it on Monday, triggering fears of its outbreak in the city again.
    Surjit Kaur, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, breathed her last at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here.The city has also received a suspected case of swine flu, spurring the district health officials into action again.

          Maharashtra woman dies from swine flu in Punjab

          A 50-year-old woman belonging to Maharashtra on Wednesday succumbed to swine flu at a local hospital here.

          Patiala Civil Surgeon HS Bali said that Sonam Kapoor died at a private hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on January 29 and was diagnosed with swine flu. The woman was on ventilator.

            Swine flu claims 10 lives in Haryana, eight in Punjab

            Eight persons have died of swine flu in Punjab so far in the current winter season, while 10 have died in the neighbouring Haryana.
            Though health authorities of both states said they were fully prepared to fight the virus, 15 persons in Punjab and 55 in Haryana are still battling for life.

            situation, all samples of suspected cases collected from the state are being tested at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.

              Mumbai: The swine flu outbreak seemed to intensify with five new admissions?four of whom are critical and on ventilator support?across the city on Saturday even as there was news that a 50-year-old Kalyan resident died of H1N1 in Patiala where she had gone to attend a wedding.
              Sonam Kapoor, who died in Punjab on February 4, was a patient of hypertension and hyperthyroidism, said officials. Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation health officer Leeladhar Mahaske added the corporation had alerted all hospitals and kept ready stocks of anti-flu medication. State epidemiology officer Dr Pradeep Awate said Punjab officials were yet to send an official address message on the death.

                Swine flu kills one more in Faridkot

                FARIDKOT: A 58-year-old woman died of swine flu after battling the disease for three days in a hospital here on Sunday.

                Tested positive for H1N1, the woman was admitted at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital on February 5. This was the first case of swine flu death in Faridkot area. Another person suspected to be suffering from the virus has also been admitted at the medical college.

                Faridkot civil surgeon Mohinder Singh said Mayawanti was admitted in the isolation ward and died on Sunday morning. He said another person Jagjit Singh of Ferozpur is also suspected to be suffering from the same disease.

                    With two more women succumbing to the H1N1 virus, death toll from swine flu in Punjab reached 11. Nearly 30 patients of the flu are in hospitals across the state.

                    In the first case reported on Sunday, a 40-year-old woman from Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur died of the flu at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, late on Saturday. The victim, Satnam Kaur, was cremated at the village on Sunday.                       JALANDHAR: The fatal Swine flu today claimed another life making it fifth in the district. Ajay Kumar (35) succumbed to the H1N1 virus early this morning at Christian Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. He was rushed to the hospital on January 24 after his health condition deteriorated.

                        Swine flu toll touches 12 in Punjab

                        JALANDHAR: Swine flu has claimed 12 lives in Punjab this winter, state's nodal officer Dr Deepak Bhatia said on Monday. The state reported three deaths on Monday from Ludhiana and Amritsar. He said that 34 confirmed cases of swine flu were under treatment at different hospitals in the state. The number of suspected cases of swine flu is 84 in the state.

                        Out of 12 dead, three who each succumbed to the H1N1 virus were from Jalandhar and Amritsar, two from Mohali and one each from Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Kapurthala. A 50-year-old woman, suspected to be suffering from the disease, died in a Ludhiana hospital on Monday.

                          A 58-year-old patient from Kapurthala on Tuesday died of swine flu at DMCH. With this the death toll in Ludhiana hospitals reached two. As many as 14 patients have been confirmed of swine flu of which five are from Ludhiana. Of the 59 beds in the various hospitals of Ludhiana meant for suspected swine flu patients, 46 have already been occupied and the DC Rajat Aggarwal has asked hospitals to arrange for extra beds.

                            CHANDIGARH : The issue of positive Swine Flu (H1N1) cases being reported and resultant deaths was reviewed and discussed by Hon?ble Health Minister, Shri. Surjit Kumar Jyani in the monthly Civil Surgeon conference at Chandigarh today. While it was observed that sufficient number of isolation wards, ventilators and other logistics were available for management of cases, it was stressed by him that for Category-C patients only accredited lab in PGI Chandigarh be utilized for confirmation of H1N1 cases.
