First case of H1N1 virus reported in Indore

A 39-year-old woman was admitted to Bombay Hospital after she was tested positive for swine flu (H1N1) on Tuesday. This incidentally is the first positive case of swine flu in Indore.
The department for integrated disease surveillance had sent three samples to the lab for swine flu tests, out of these only one came out to be positive.
A resident of Chavani, a residential area in the city, attendants of the patient said that she started showing symptoms of pneumonia on her return from a religious trip. The patient had reportedly gone on a visit to Nasik, with her family wherein she started developing cough and cold.

Her tests were done for diagnosis, in which it was found that she had hints of pneumonia but no clarity on the matter could be ascertained. She was then finally taken for a swine flu test.

Earlier, a woman, Asha Chelani, had died at the Akshay Hospital, on Tuesday. Doctors at both the private hospitals confirmed that both the deaths had occurred due to swine flu. However, a controversy erupted on the issue of whether the deceased woman, Asha Chelani, actually died of swine flu. The doctors at the private hospital where she succumbed declared her to a be a sure case of swine flu in contradiction to the state health minister Mr Mishra, who claimed her death not to be related to swine flu.
Following the spurt of swine flue cases across the country specially in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, the MP government declared a red alert after a meeting chaired by State Health Minister Narottam Mishra to review the H1N1 situation in the State yesterday.
At the meeting, the health minister passed strict directives that no private hospitals have the authority to release details of suspected deaths or confirmed deaths due to swine flu to the media. Mr Mishra added that any private hospital spreading such rumours about deaths of any persons due to swine flu would be penalized strictly and would stand to lose its registration. Mishra further instructed health officials to review all cases under treatment in private clinics on regular basis.
