PUNE: A 10-month-old baby died at the Sassoon Hospital on Wednesday. "His throat swab report has been sent to the National Institute of Virology
(NIV) for confirmation of the H1N1 infection. The report is awaited," said Ashok Mehta, joint director of state health services.
"The child died of bronchopneumonia. He was suffering from severe fever and cough. His condition was critical when he was admitted to the hospital at 12.35 am on Wednesday. He was immediately put on a ventilator. He died at 5 am," said Mehta.
Meanwhile, three more people tested positive for swine flu in the district on Wednesday.
Elaborating on the number of critical patients being treated at government and private hospitals within PMC and PCMC limits, Mehta said, "At present, there are seven patients being treated at the isolation ICUs of various private and government hospitals, of which four are on ventilator and their condition is very critical."
"Around 7,764 people were screened across the district, of which 191 were found suspected and given Tamiflu tablets," said Mehta. "As many as 36 patients were given discharge on Wednesday. Around 3.48 lakh people have been screened across the district so far, of which 16,036 were given Tamilfu," said Mehta. The total number of positive patients in the district so far has reached 934.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl, a standard VII student of a school in Ganesh Peth, who died at Sassoon hospital on Monday, tested negative for H1N1 virus, said Mehta.
