The little boy was discharged on Tuesday, after two weeks of studied medical care. The journey successfully got over at the Sassoon general hospital, from where he was finally allowed to go home.

"The boy fought his way out of a critical condition, with his treatment lasting for around 12 days. We kept him under observation for two extra days. We let him go after he showed signs of full recovery and we have told his family to keep him under home quarantine for the next few days," said Chhaya Valavi, lecturer of the Paediatric department at the B J medical college and the Sassoon general hospital.

According to Valavi, when the boy first fell ill on August 12, he was taken to a private hospital, where it was detected that he had Dengue. On August 14, he was shifted to another hospital for three days, but his condition deteriorated there.

Valavi said that since the boy began to show signs of the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) he was shifted to the Sassoon hospital around 3 am on August 16. Since he was having major trouble in breathing, he was immediately put on a ventilator.

Associated professor of the department of Paediatric, B J medical college, and Sassoon general hospital Aarti Kinikar said, "The boy was suffering from Dengue and also had symptoms of ARDS. We tested him for H1N1 flu and it was positive."

Meanwhile, the little boy's family live in Narayan Peth. His father is an estate agent and mother is a homemaker.

"At the same time that the boy was undergoing treatment for Dengue and respiratory problems, his father was under treatment for Dengue at a private hospital in Kothrud," Kinikar said.

The father fully recovered on Sunday. However, he was not allowed to meet the child. All through, his wife and father struggled to take care of the two ailing members of the family and saw them through the medical ordeal.
