    H1N1 claims another life, toll reaches 19

    A 25-year-old youth from Mizoram succumbed to swine flu in the city on Friday. On the other hand, the National Institute of Virology (NIV) confirmed that the death of 34-year-old Mahesh Gopal Pai on August 16 was due to H1N1 virus. With this, the city toll has reached 19 in a span of 18 days.



    On Friday, Franky Lalunjia from Mizoram, who was staying at Spicer College Hostel, Aundh, died around 10 am at the YCM Hospital. The health officials also confirmed that 27-year-old Vikram Sharma who died at Sassoon General Hospital on Thursday night had a reaction to Tamiflu tablet. Sharma was admitted on August 9; he died of multi-organ failure, Dr Ashok Ladda, Joint Director of Health Services said. ?He had a reaction to Tamiflu because of which he was put him on another drug,? Ladda said.



    According to Dr P Yadav, assistant health officer, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Lalunjia had been suffering from fever and other ailments from August 12. He was referred by D Y Patil Medical Hospital to YCM Hospital on August 17 and succumbed to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
