    NDMA conducts Workshop on influenza A (H1N1) Pandemic Preparedness for Business Continuity in Non-Health Sectors

    The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) conducted a Workshop on the ?Pandemic Preparedness for Business Continuity in Non-Health Sectors? in coordination with Ministry of Home and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Ist June 2009. This workshop was attended by more than 60 senior representatives of Central Government, various States, and Union Territories along with representatives from FICCI and CII. Directions for pandemic preparedness given in the workshop were well received by the delegates. One outcome of the deliberations was that the district administration shall send daily report, of the progress made on pandemic preparedness, to the state which shall send the same to the Centre and NDMA on daily basis. Some of the points raised by delegates are being forwarded to the respective Ministries and State Departments.

    Prior to this, NDMA has released ?Guidelilnes on Influenza A (H1N1)Pandemic Preparedness for Business Continuity in Non-Health Sectors?. These guidelines can be accessed under the news section of www.ndma.gov.in, the official website of NDMA. An ?Action Plan on Pandemic Preparedness and Response for Managing Novel Influenza A H1N1? has also been released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in consultation with NDMA in May 2009.

    To strengthen the Influenza A (H1N1) Pandemic Preparedness, National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, has undertaken various other initiatives by releasing various knowledge documents and guidelines which are as under:

    Influenza A (H1N1) virus is causing respiratory illness in more than 60 countries with more than 17,000 confirmed cases including 115 deaths across the globe. With the number of inflected people increasing everyday on exponential basis, there is a high possibility of disruption of business activity further leading to serious socio-economic disruption leading to law and order problems.
