    NEW DELHI : India is being buffeted by cases of swine flu and dengue that are threatening to become an outbreak just as it seeks to close the chapter on the covid pandemic.

    The country has reported more than 30,627 cases of dengue with 12 deaths this year until the end of August, according to the latest data by the union health ministry.

    The burden is the highest in Karnataka (5,392), Tamil Nadu (3,396), Telangana (2,960), Maharashtra (2,927), Andhra Pradesh (2,309), Kerala (2,007), Odisha (1,745), Chhattisgarh (1448) and Gujarat (1212).

    More than 1,455 cases of swine flu with 30 deaths have been reported this year in India. Maharashtra reported the highest number (512 cases, 16 deaths), followed by Karnataka (283), Gujarat (205), Rajasthan (125), West Bengal (81), Goa (61) Telangana (38) and Delhi (12). The union health ministry has directed all states and UTs to take surveillance measures for reporting cases, offer timely treatment and be prepared to avoid an outbreak...

      A civic authority report indicated on Monday that the number of dengue cases in Delhi has increased, with 635 new infections registered in the first 12 days of October bringing the total for this year to 1,572. There have been 1,572 cases documented so far this year, and 693 of those cases were reported in September alone.

      In the report issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the city on Monday had logged 937 cases of dengue this year through the end of September, and 635 additional cases were reported in the first 12 days of October, bringing the total number of the vector-borne disease in the city to 1,572...

        As dengue cases are rising in Delhi, doctors have warned that many dengue patients are developing liver dysfunction

        Delhi has reported more than 900 cases of dengue in October this year, which is nearly 50% of the cases logged in the year so far. The infection tally reached 1,876 and doctors are also warning of severe complications such as liver dysfunction and capillary leak.

        "On an average, every day six to 10 patients are getting admitted. Patients are developing issues like severe liver dysfunction and capillary leak. These are young patients aged between 20-40 years," said Dr. Sumit Ray, head of critical care at Holy Family Hospital in Okhla.

        Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia assured that the government is keeping a close eye on the data and fatalities from dengue are still under control despite rising cases...

          Over 1,100 dengue cases have been reported in the national capital in the first three-and-a-half weeks of November, taking the infection tally of the vector-borne disease to more than 3,300 so far this year, according to a civic report issued on Monday.

          In October, 1,238 cases were logged.

          The dengue infection tally stood at 3,044 till November 18, and 279 more cases have been recorded since then till November 25.

          The city has also recorded 230 cases of malaria and 44 cases of chikungunya this year, according to the report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

          Of the total of 3,323 reported cases, 693 were logged in September.

          In 2017, the city logged 4,645 cases in the January 1-November 25 period, the report stated...
