40 Children Among 50 To Die Of Dengue In UP District, Centre Sends Team

    snip

A team of the WHO has told me this is Haemorrhagic Dengue which is a very dangerous form of dengue. The platelet count of children collapses suddenly and there is a lot of bleeding," Chandra Vijay Singh, the district Magistrate of Firozabad said in a video statement on Thursday.

In Mathura, 60 km away from Firozabad, 11 children have died from fever and dehydration in just one village - Koh - in the last 15 days. The UP government said the deaths are due to vector-borne diseases, primarily dengue. Fifteen people have died in the district so far.

Visuals from a government hospital in Hapur, about 100 km from New Delhi, showed a paediatric (child) outpatient department filled with patients - mostly young children accompanied by their mothers.

At least 50 people, including 40 children, have died in western Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district in the last 10 days from dengue. The state government said the deaths were due to "Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever," which is a severe form of the disease.

Even as the COVID pandemic related infections and fatalities are showing a decline, some disturbing reports of the breakout of a ‘mystery fever’ and dengue have rattled the city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

One of the deceased had symptoms of severe pneumonia with an upper respiratory tract infection. According to the doctors who treated upon him, he died due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) which is commonly seen in those infected with the coronavirus.

38-year-old Laxmi Prajapati had developed breathing problems and subsequently stopped breathing after catching a fever. Neha, who was admitted to a private hospital after developing dengue, was undergoing treatment for several days but she also died on Wednesday.

The health department is not able to figure out if these five deaths have any relation with COVID as the COVID tests of all five were negative. Doctors say that the COVID test is showing negative results in patients adding that the flu virus is quite complex.

A MYSTERY illness killing dozens of kids has spread to 30,000 people amid fears it could continue to spread.

The bug - believed to be either scrub typhus or dengue fever - is spreading rapidly throughout a northern state of India.

The illness has killed dozens of children as well as adults.

As the country slowly recovers from a deadly second wave of coronavirus, the deaths in Uttar Pradesh have provoked panic among hospital doctors.

About 30,000 people in the city of Kanpur are now infected with the bug, according to local media.

More than 40 people - mostly children - have reportedly died from the virus in the past week.

Many of those infected have been hospitalised, complaining of joint pains, headaches, dehydration and nausea.

In some cases, the patients also suffer from declining platelets, a crucial part of the circulation system that allows blood to clot...

Dengue Deaths: UP Govt Officials Interact with Patients at Firozabad Medical College

Several senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday visited the state-run medical college here and interacted with patients of dengue and viral fever. The visit comes after death toll due to dengue and viral fever in the district mounted to 50 on Friday.

Okieman comment: Not sure whether it is important, but the photo of this team of officials visiting shows them wearing double cartridge filter respirators and face shields. Maybe it is because of the chance that Covid is in the mix, but I still find it interesting since the prevailing thought is that this outbreak is due to dengue and scrub typhus.

In Firozabad, people flee or send kids away as 5 diseases are identified as ‘mystery illness’
Dengue, malaria, viral fever, scrub typhus and leptospirosis make up ‘mystery fever’ wreaking havoc in Firozabad for over a month. Official figures peg toll at 62, most are children.

Firozabad: Spiders and lizards have cosied up in the abandoned houses of Nagla Amaan, a village in UP’s Firozabad district. Meanwhile, Nagla Mavasi, another village, doesn’t echo with the playful screams of children anymore.

In both these villages, two of Firozabad’s 152 rural settlements and located close to the city, residents have either packed up and left, or sent their children away. Reason: An outbreak of five infectious diseases that has racked up a double-digit toll since 20 August.

Dengue, malaria, viral fever, scrub typhus and leptospirosis make up the “mystery fever” outbreak that has been wreaking havoc in the district for over a month, according to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dinesh Premi.

Official figures peg the toll at 62 — 80 per cent of them children — but some media reports claim more than 200 children and adults have died of the infections so far.

Premi said dengue is the dominant infection with 3,593 samples testing positive for the vector-borne disease. There have been 61 malaria cases, 51 of scrub typhus, and 23 of leptospirosis...

Another ‘D’ hits India after Covid’s Delta: What you need to know about dengue's new and lethal D2 variant
                  Times Now Digital
                  Updated Sep 28, 2021 | 22:53 IST
Like the Delta variant of Covid, the new dangerous D2 variant of dengue could be the reason behind the increasing number of dengue cases in India.

                  Key Highlights

A new variant of dengue has been detected in over 11 states in the country.

The new D2 variant could be reason for the sudden spike in dengue cases in the country.

States are reeling under dengue caseload, with UP alone seeing nearly 6,500 cases in the past few months.

Barely has the country recovered from the carnage of the Delta variant of Covid in the second wave that dengue has presented us with another dreaded ‘D’ variant. The DENV 2 strain of dengue, also called the ‘D2’ variant, is now being suspected to be the reason for the sudden spike in the number of cases in the country.

A fortnight ago, Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Balram Bhargava confirmed that this strain of the dengue virus was behind the surge in fever cases and deaths in western UP districts of Firozabad, Agra, Mathura and Aligarh. Between late August and mid-September, at least 58 people succumbed due to dengue in Firozabad alone. As of last week, UP had recorded nearly 6,500 cases, out of which 70 per cent have been reported in the months of August and September...
