UDHAMPUR, Jan 15: Stating that a peculiar, purported viral infection which starts with severe vomiting and then severe renal infection has all-of-a-sudden erupted in Ramnagar and taken the toll of a dozen-odd children of Ramnagar, senior BJP leader RS Pathania today called for immediate crash measures to tackle epidemic-like situation in Ramnagar.
Interacting with the people of Ramnagar, Pathania said an epidemic situation has arisen in Ramnagar and more than score-over children battling for live and death in various hospitals in as well as outside J&K. Alleging that lack of proper healthcare has further played the spoilsport, Pathania called for immediate measures to tackle the situation.
“A virtual fear psychosis is prevailing in Ramnagar whereby parents are rushing and shifting their wards to Chandigarh, Ludhiana and other out-of-state health destinations,” Pathania said and called for immediate formulation of a team of senior consultants to accurately diagnose the disease and prescribe further preventive measures and sensitize local public about the disease so that the disease is curbed at the nip-stage.

Locals claim 12 deaths; teams deputed after one week’s delay
JAMMU: A mysterious illness has claimed lives of at least six children in Ramnagar town of Udhampur district, with several others undergoing treatment in various hospitals, even as the reports put the number of deaths to as high as twelve within the 25-30 kilometers of the area in past eight-ten days.
The health authorities in district Udhampur have been put on high alert and two health teams have been dispatched to the area for investigation of the cause of the deaths.
The government has preliminarily attributed the deaths to febrile illness—the sudden fever or elevation in body temperature, but has not confirmed the number of deaths.
Official sources said that panic gripped Ramnagar tehsil after six children, aged from 1 to 6 years, died of a mysterious disease in some villages in the town in past 8-10 days.
