Docs Covering up Japanese Encephalitis Case Figures in Gorakhpur under Pressure by UP Govt: Akhilesh
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said he will soon release a list of children who died due to Japanese Encephalitis in Gorakhpur in the past one year.
      Qazi Faraz Ahmad | News18@qazifarazahmadUpdated:January 3, 2020, 6:46 PM IST

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday attacked the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, alleging it had pressurised doctors to "manage" the number of deaths caused by Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Gorakhpur. The former chief minister claimed that the "inhumane" work was done by the doctors as per directives from Adityanath.

“Our chief minister is concerned about the deaths of children in Kota, but when will he show concern about more than a thousand kids who died over the last year in Gorakhpur?" said Yadav at a press briefing in Lucknow. "The most inhumane thing done was even after knowing that the kids were suffering from JE, the doctors could not give them the right medication as they were told to keep the figures of such cases in control at any cost.”
      ...
Hours later, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma contested his claim. "He (Akhilesh) needs to furnish evidence with the list and not level baseless allegations," Sharma said at a press conference.

Akhilesh seeks probe into death of children at Gorakhpur hospital
Press Trust of India | Lucknow
Last Updated at January 6, 2020 15:45 IST

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday demanded a probe by a sitting Supreme Court or High Court judge into deaths of children at Gorakhpur Medical College.

Blood tests conducted on 1,800 children admitted in the hospital between January and October last year showed that they were suffering from encephalitis, but the government admitted only 500 such cases by "tweaking the records", he told reporters here.

He alleged that acting at the behest of the government, the doctors there described illness of the children as acute fever and claimed that around 1,500 children had died there between January and October last year.

UP govt says JE, AES on decline, accuses Akhilesh of falsifying data

Lucknow, Jan 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government said on Tuesday there is decline in Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrom (AES) cases in the state, a day after Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav demanded a judicial probe into the death of children in Gorakhpur.
"In 2019, only 229 cases of JE came to the fore and 18 deaths were reported and 2,026 cases of AES came to the fore and 100 deaths were reported," UP government spokesman Sidharth Nath Singh told reporters here.

"Akhilesh is lying and giving false data of deaths. As compared to 2016, the deaths of children have come down by 65-70 per cent now," he said, adding that between 2017 and 2019, over 1.5 crore children were vaccinated.
