Mohammed Amir, a 26-year old pharmacist in Liberia, acquired Ebola infection in Liberia earlier this year. Unfortunately, he lost the battle against Ebola and succumbed to the deadly disease on September 7. He is the first Indian national to have died of the deadly virus, confirmed the government.
According to a report with the government, Mohammed?s body was buried locally after his death, complying to the WHO guidelines. His family members were informed about his death but they could not perform his last rites. Minister of State of External Affairs V K Singh told Lok Sabha, in a written reply, that Mohammed is the only Indian who has died of Ebola so far. There has been no case of Ebola in India.
