DOD to Aid India as it Copes With COVID-19 Pandemic

April 26, 2021 | BY David Vergun , DOD News
John F. Kirby, Pentagon press secretary, briefed the media today, speaking on a number of different topics, including aid to India.

"The United States deeply values our partnership with India," Kirby said. "We are determined to help the people in India as they bravely combat this outbreak."
The Defense Department is working closely with other U.S. agencies to rapidly deploy oxygen-related equipment, rapid COVID-19 test kits, personal protective equipment and other essential materials to India, he said.

"We are also in close communication with the government of India to ensure that we are providing India's frontline health care workers with any support we can offer within our authority," he added.

In the days and weeks ahead, DOD will continue to coordinate with allies and like-minded countries to ensure that collective efforts are closely synchronized and poised to have maximal impact in mitigating the crisis, he said...

      We had this:
“China,” he said, “will continue to maintain a smooth channel for materials exports to India.

In his letter to Jaishankar, Foreign Minister Wang said that anti-pandemic materials produced in China are entering India at a faster rate to help it fight the epidemic. "
      https://www.hindustantimes.com/world...778048582.html

But it's not just the Chinese, because Russian vaccines are coming too.

In any case, when the presidents of two great powers engage, communication will be mastered.
Regarding the question, when it is the president who moves, in China, that means that the C.D.C is active and engaged.

And after Mr. Fauci's Oops on his difficulties in highlighting the possibilities of the American military, the others will show their possibilities. There is pride in this kind of body ...

From my point of view, it's a regional approach, which is normal ...
To put it courteously: there were the Wuhan military Olympics, there are going to be the covid military games.

From my point of view, it's open to everyone, but this time we want results, no more Oops ...

150,000 doses of Russian Sputnik V vaccine on way to Hyderabad
        https://www.hindustantimes.com/india...851846945.html

According to officials, some five million “filled and finished” bottles of Sputnik V will arrive in a container from Russia in June and some 10 million-plus vaccines in July. New Delhi has asked Moscow for the ramped-up supply of the vaccine as it wants to vaccinate as many Indians as possible in the shortest time.

certainly it can be use of product, but there is also the way to do it ...

Worrying given the Sinovac efficacy. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/...e-dose-rcna753

Brazil’s Covid-19 vaccination program is being put at risk by people failing to show up for their second shot, with 1.5 million people missing appointments for the follow-up dose needed to maximize protection, according to the Health Ministry.

Specialists say that is particularly concerning after a recent real-world study from Chile found that the Sinovac Biotech (SVA.O) Covid-19 vaccine, which has accounted for some 80% of Brazil's program, is just 16% effective after one shot.

“Without the two doses, we get neither full protection nor a long duration of protection,” Juarez Cunha, head of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations, told Reuters. “We need people to do the full cycle.”

the elections passed with the results we know:

When the political powers fail so drastically, society starts fighting hard for its survival. And, faced with this disaster, many people have decided to confront the situation head-on. These are the people whose names may not be recorded by history but future generations will own them a huge debt of gratitude. Let me introduce you to some of them.

"The second wave of Covid-19 in India has been among the biggest international stories being covered across the Chinese media. The coverage reflects a sense of anxiety and opportunity.

          ...
At the same time, the situation in India presents opportunities for Beijing. At the bare minimum, there is a commercial opportunity, given the shortage of emergency supplies, equipment and therapeutics. But, at a deeper level, there are geopolitical opportunities. This is reflected in the Chinese media’s critical coverage of the delayed response by the Joe Biden administration, the emphasis on China’s manufacturing prowess and its centrality to key supply chains, and foreign minister Wang Yi’s summit with his South Asian counterparts, which focused on health supplies and vaccines.

India Covid Cases Surpass 20 Million, Deaths Top 220,000 as Crisis Worsens

"COVID-19 infections and deaths are mounting with alarming speed in India with no end in sight to the crisis, and a top expert has warned that the coming weeks will be “horrible.” India's official count of coronavirus cases surpassed 20 million Tuesday, nearly doubling in the past three months, while deaths officially have passed 220,000. The true figures are believed to be far higher, the undercount an apparent reflection of the troubles in the health care system."

Confirming the enhanced power of the virus, District COVID Special Officer and Principal of Andhra Medical College P.V. Sudhakar said,“We have observed that the new variant has shorter incubation period and the progress of the disease is much rapid. In the earlier cases, a patient affected with the virus would take at least a week to reach the hypoxia or dyspnea stage. But in the present context, patients are reaching the serious condition stage within three orfour days. And that is why there is heavy pressure on beds with oxygen orICU beds,” he said. Experts also point out that unlike during the first wave, a shorter exposure is enough to acquire the virus, which enables an infected person to infect fourto five persons, within a shorter contact span. “Most essentially, none is spared, as we have observed that it is affecting the younger population in a big way, including those who are fitness freaks and have high immunity levels. It is also observed that cytokine storm is occurring faster, and some are responding to treatment and some are not,” said Dr. Sudhakar.

Double mutant of coronavirus fast replacing dominant N440K variant in south India: Scientists

                      By: PTI |
                      May 4, 2021 9:32 PM

The B.1.617 variant harbours 15 lineage defining mutations. B.1.617, initially termed as the double mutant, has three new spike protein mutations.

The B.1.617 variant of the coronavirus, also known as the double mutant, is fast replacing the N440K variant in south India, scientists at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) said on Tuesday.

Former CCMB director Rakesh Mishra said the double mutant is now a dominant variant in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and now Telangana.

After an exhaustive analysis of 5,000 variants earlier this year, the CCMB had found that N440K is spreading a lot more in the southern states compared to the other variants.

But B.1.617 is fast replacing N440K, including in Kerala, Divya Tej Sowpati, a scientist with the CCMB, said.

                          Covid-19 halts Delhi trains

The Northern Railways on Thursday cancelled a slew of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto Express', stating low patronisation and rising coronavirus cases as the reason behind the decision. The to-and-fro services of eight Shatabdi Express, two Rajdhani Express, two Duronto Express and one Vande Bharat Express are among around 28 trains that have been cancelled "till further advice" by the Northern Railways. Meanwhile, India reported 4,12,262 new cases and 3,980 deaths in the 24 hours ending 9 am Thursday. India had become the first country in the world to register over 4 lakh infections in a single day on April 30, when it reported 4.08 lakh infections. The new infections have pushed India's caseload to over 2.06 crore while active cases stand at 35.66 lakh.
