    Agartala, Jan 25 (IANS) Bird flu or avian influenza has resurfaced in Tripura, an official said here Wednesday.

    Tripura animal resources development department secretary Swapan Saha told reporters: ?Samples of sick poultry birds from the ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) duck farm at Lembuchara in western Tripura were found to contain H5 strain of avian influenza virus.?

    ?Culling of 2,000 ducks and birds at the ICAR farm will start Friday,? Saha said, adding that the culling of poultry birds and ducks in the adjoining villages would also start simultaneously.

    Tripura Chief Secretary S.K. Panda held a high-level meeting with senior officials after the high-security Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Bhopal confirmed the incidence of the disease.

    Saha said 16 rapid response teams have been formed to cull the ducks and birds at ICAR farm and adjoining villages.

    ?The Border Security Force (BSF) has been alerted to check entry of ducks and birds from across the border,? the official said.

    Tripura, bordering Bangladesh, had earlier also been affected by bird flu ? forcing the authorities to cull lakhs of ducks and poultry birds.

    Agartala, Jan 25, 2012 : After a fresh outbreak of Bird flu or avian influenza in ICAR complex, culling of 2,000 ducks and birds at the farm will start on Friday next, said Swapan Saha, secretary of animal resources development department, today.

    The recurrence was confirmed following the Bhopal based High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) indicated that blood samples sent to them have presence of deadly H5N1 virus.

    The culling of poultry birds and ducks in the adjoining villages would also start simultaneously.

    An emergency meeting headed by Chief Secretary Dr SK Panda was also held at civil secretariat here to counter the outbreak. ?We have already made preparations for pressing the culling team for which enough musk and other accessories have been arranged?, according to ARD officials. ?We have received an advisory from the Centre to go for culling of fowls?, he said. The department has so far formed 14 rapid response team including veterinary doctors to undertake culling. The officials, however, in a bid to avoid any controversy have decided to begin culling without wasting time.

    To arrest the spread of bird flu, state government today ordered culling of birds in three-km radius of the area as advised by the Centre, official sources added.

    A notification on culling will be issued shortly. The officials said that an amount of Rupee 40 will be paid for each of the culled birds to its owners. ?The BSF has been alerted to check entry of ducks and birds from across the border?, the official said. In the meeting, Principal secretary Sudip Roy, Nepal Sinha, PCCF and DM West Kiran Gitte were also present.

    The state bordering Bangladesh, had earlier also been affected by bird flu ? forcing the authorities to cull lakhs of ducks and poultry birds. The state was first hit by bird flu in 2008 when 50,000 birds were culled at Mohanpur and in neighbouring areas.

      Culling of poultry birds begins in Tripura

      Agartala, Jan 27 (PTI) The culling of bird flu affected poultry began today in five gram panchayats areas of West Tripura district. The culling began after confirmation of the presence of H5N1 virus in the affected birds from High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) in Bhopal. "Twelve teams of Rapid Response Squad of Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) have started culling in 3 km radius area of government-owned Lembucherra poultry farm in the district, about 20 km from here," Director of Animal Resource Department Manoranjan Sarkar said. He said though exact number of culled chicks and ducks could not be ascertained yet, the people engaged in the operation were asked to visit each house so that no chick or duck is left out of the operation. All precautionary measures have been made to prevent fresh outbreak of bird flu in the state, Sarkar said adding that the movement of poultry products has been banned in the affected areas. Tripura witnessed outbreak of avian influenza way back in 2008. At least 55,000 chicks and ducks were culled at Mohanpur and its adjacent villages of West Tripura district. PTI JOY AMD

        Tripura begins culling to contain bird flu

        Agartala, Jan 27 (IANS) With a fresh outbreak of bird flu at a government-run farm in western Tripura, authorities Friday started culling more than 1,600 poultry birds to contain spread of the infection, officials said here.

        "In addition to culling poultry birds, destruction of eggs and feed material also has begun at the ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) farm at Lembuchara in western Tripura so as to control further spread of the disease to the neighbouring villages," Manoranjan Sarkar, Tripura animal resource development department director, told IANS.

        "Besides the ICAR farm, over 12,000 birds and ducks in the adjoining villages and poultry farms would also be culled within the next four days," he added.

        Samples of sick poultry birds from the ICAR farm were found to contain H5 strain of avian influenza virus. The samples have been tested and found positive by the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal, he said.

        The ICAR farm, 25 km north of Tripura capital city Agartala, is surrounded by several villages.

          Culling going on in Tripura (27/01/2012)
          For the second time in last one year, culling of poultry birds are being conducted at a farm at Lambuchara, about 25 kilometers from here today. The process will be followed in a 3-sqaure kilometers area around the farm. The culling was supposed to be carried out yesterday, but for some machines and shortage of menpower, it would not be done, said sources.
          That has been the fourth time bird flu attacked the state.

          Agartala, Jan 27, 2012 : After determination of fresh outbreak of Bird flu or Avian influenza in ICAR complex on January 24 last, the culling of 2,000 ducks, poultry Chickens and birds at the farm started on Friday along in the vicinity of 3 KMs radius from the farm.

          Official sources said, the Animal Resources Development department of Tripura had constituted 14 rapid response team including veterinary doctors to undertake culling and two more surveillance team to oversee the entire culling operation in and around the 10 KMs radius from ICAR complex in Lambucherra.

          The culling of poultry birds and ducks in the adjoining villages also started simultaneously on Friday.

          In addition to the culling, surveillance will be carried out over a further radius up to 10 kilometers. Surveillance throughout the state is being intensified to monitor further spread of infection, if any.

          The BSF has been alerted to check entry of ducks and birds from across the border?, the official said.

          ARD added that there are no issues for panic, fresh culling began only for prevention steps and there are no reports of outbreak of Avian Flu in other parts of Tripura.

            Culling to over tomorrow

            Agartala, Jan 29, 2012 : Altogether 515 bird flu affected poultry was culled in five-gram panchayat areas, Lembucherra, today. The culling began after confirmation of the presence of H5N1 virus here on Friday last. The figure of culled birds rose to 5825 on the third day. Fourteen teams of Rapid Response Squad of Animal Resource Development Department are carrying out the culling in 3-km radius area of government-owned Lembucherra poultry farm, officials here said. About Rs 17085 were given to the bird flu hit families as compensation today. The culling operation is likely to over tomorrow, according to the officials. ?All precautionary measures have been made to prevent fresh outbreak of bird flu in the state?, an ARD official said, adding that the movement of poultry products has been banned in the affected areas.

              Agartala : Over 6,200 poultry birds and ducks were culled in Tripura after reports of a fresh outbreak of bird flu, officials said here Thursday.

              The culling was done in Lembuchara area of western Tripura. "Mopping up operations and disinfection of poultry farms, birds and ducks enclosures and cages have begun," Tripura animal resource development department director Manoranjan Sarkar told IANS.

                Mopping operation began in Tripura

                Agartala: Following the culling of 6204 poultry in the vicinity of the government poultry farm in Lembucherra, about 25 km from here, mopping operation has started to disinfect the area, official sources said Thursday.

                Director of Animal Resources department, Manoranjan Sarkar said, after culling mopping operation started since yesterday in the three km radius of Lembucherra farm and added it would be completed today.

                Sarkar said, entry of poultry was banned for ten days since the outbreak of the disease in the area and Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted so that no chicken or ducks could enter into the state from Bangladesh which shares 856 long border with Tripura.
