?We have received the instructions from the state government following which we have instructed the workers here to cover their mouths with mask and not to go too near the ducks or other birds. Public entry is allowed but there is no rush these days. Instructions to the public are also given to avoid going near the cages and the birds. The care takers of the park also keeps a vigil over the visitors to warn them going near the cages even as there is no such risk of virus here and none of the bird death has been reported. Workers used to feed the ducks, in cage, only after covering their hands with gloves. The ducks were also checked up earlier to confirm any virus in them but nothing was reported dangerous,? added Sanjeev.

At least 40 ducks and scores of other birds were today found dead in and around a pond at Seetogunno village, 31 km from here, on the Abohar-Dabwali-Delhi highway.
Local residents blamed the district administration for failing to protect birds in the wildlife sanctuary spread over 20 villages here despite reports of similar developments in other parts of the state. Irked residents placed the dead birds in the middle of the road that resulted in the suspension of vehicular traffic. Buses and other vehicles were routed through link roads.

    DEATH OF BIRDS
Experts still clueless, but rule out avian influenza

    Jalandhar, January 14
Veterinary experts at the Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL) have not been able to ascertain the cause of the death of birds at several places in the region.
They have so far ruled out the prevalence of bird flu in any of the samples of dead birds received from parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
The experts have, however, hinted at possible reasons such as a long spell of cold weather or toxic elements in grains or water.
Dr Vinay Mohan, Joint Director, RDDL, said: ?The focus is to detect the highly contagious avian influenza. We have so far conducted tests on samples of 37 ducks from Fazilka, 45 migratory birds from Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Gurgaon, poultry from the periphery of Chandigarh and water samples from the Sukhna Lake. All samples have tested negative.?
