  • India - Media report - Odisha: Bird Flu Confirmed In Cuttack; 400 Birds Culled, 6000 Eggs Destroyed - HP H5N1 confirmed by OIE

Cuttack: More than 400 birds were culled and 6,000 eggs destroyed at the Livestock Breeding and Dairy Farm in Cuttack city by a veterinary team after the Animal Resources Development (ARD) confirmed a bird flu outbreak.
Talking to mediapersons on Sunday, a senior ARD official said that following regular reports, for about a week, of ducks and hen dying at a farm, the Animal Disease Research Institute (ADRI) at Phulnakhara, on the outskirts of the city, sent stool and blood samples of the dead birds to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal for tests.
After the institute confirmed presence of H1N1 virus (What strain?), an ARD team led by the chief district veterinary officer (CDVO) went to the farm at Khapuria in Khan Nagar area of the city on Friday night and culled over 400 birds and destroyed about 6,000 eggs.

Bird flu in Cuttack; chicken culling begins

      Monday, 01 April 2019 | PNS | CUTTACK
      ...
The breeding centre witnessed deaths of at least 10 to 15 birds everyday over the past ten days, following which samples were sent to several laboratories within the State and outside. Reports from a laboratory in Bhopal indicated that the samples tested positive to the strain of H5N1 virus which spreads from bird to bird.

Sources said veterinary teams have culled over 400 ducks within the breeding centre by Sunday evening. Huge quantities of chickens and eggs from nearby vending zones have also been destroyed.
      ...

Panic gripped people in Cuttack after it was officially confirmed that there has been an outbreak of bird flu in the city. Samples collected from a State-run duck breeding centre at Khapuria here tested positive to the deadly strain of avian influenza, said Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO)
