Bird flu has been confirmed again in Karuwata and Purakkad in Alappuzha district. 9,300 birds in Purakkad panchayat and 292 birds in Karuvata gram panchayat are to be destroyed. The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal confirmed that the Purakkad ducks died due to bird flu. (Bird flu Alappuzha Purakkad Karuvatta).

The ducks in the four-wing paddock died en masse. These belong to Devarajan in Karuvata Kochuparam. 200 ducks died within a week. Devarajan has 9,300 ducks aged 65 – 70 days. The ducks had blue eyes. Then the death started. Last year too, 11,000 ducks of Devarajan died due to bird flu.

Culling can be done only after confirmation of bird flu and notification of central government. Otherwise, the ducks who destroy it will be in a situation where they will not be compensated. The authorities of the Animal Protection Department had stated that it was because of this that the domestic birds in the area were not destroyed. According to the Collector's suggestion to find out the cause of bird flu every year in Alappuzha, the report of the study will be given within 2 weeks.
