    RAIPUR: With suspected bird flu reported in Anjora in Durg district, Chhattisgarh government has gone on high alert to prevent a possible outbreak after few samples were found positive by the Bhopal based High Security Animal Disease Laboratory, country's premier lab under the Indian Veterinary Research Institute ( IVRI).


    "There are large number of birds at the veterinary college in Anjora in Durg district. Some samples were sent to Bhopal laboratory after the local officials suspected flu. We have received a verbal communication that these samples tested positive for bird flu," state agriculture minister Chandrasekhar Sahu told TOI...

      Chhattisgarh sounds alert on bird flu

      An alert has been sounded in Chhattisgarh after the outbreak of bird flu in a poultry farm at Anjora village of Rajnandgaon district by the health department of the state.

      "Health department today sounded an alert in the state following the outbreak of bird flu in Anjora," Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Chandra Shekhar Sahu said.

      Following the deaths of birds in the district, samples were sent to Bhopal for tests and Avian influenza virus was detected, he said.

      As preventive measures, area within 10 km of the village is being monitored by the health officials while area within 1 km is being sanitised, he said.

        The outbreak of bird flu is now confirmed in Chhattisgarh. But still chicken is coming to state from neighbouring states without any check and control. It is to be remembered that thousands of chickens had died in Jagdalpur but despite that the birds are being sold in this market without any check.

            H5N1 outbreak: Union Health Ministry team goes to Chhattisgarh

            New Delhi: Following reports about the outbreak of Avian flu in poultry farms in Durg and Bastar districts of Chhattisgarh, a team of Union Health Ministry has gone there to take stock of the situation.

            A three-member team, comprising two epidemiologists and a chest physician, has gone to Chhattisgarh to investigate and assist the state authorities to take necessary measures for containment of H5N1 as per the established protocol, Ministry sources said.

            The animal husbandry department in the Ministry of Agriculture had informed the Health Ministry that the samples sent from Anjora and Jagdalpur farms have been declared positive by Bhopal's high security animal diseases laboratory, the sources said.
