    Mysterious disease kills cattle

Kendrapara: At least 32 buffaloes died due to suspected foot and mouth disease last week in a coastal village in Kendrapara district. Veterinary experts, who rushed to the village, said the sick cattle are suffering from suspected foot-and-mouth disease.
?Things have assumed epidemic proportion with the air-borne viral disease spreading fast. Most of the buffaloes are infected and all cattle in the area would be vaccinated,? veterinary surgeons, who examined the sick cattle, said.
The Bajrabahakuda village is home to nearly 200 cattle farmers. Apart from cattle rearing , fishing and agriculture are other sources of livelihood for the villagers. The disease has hit the village economy as cattle farmers, who supply milk to Paradip, had attained a degree of self-sufficiency, Bijoy Shukla, Sarpanch of Ramnagar gram panchayat, said.PTI http://www.hindu.com/2008/10/25/stor...2551650300.htm
