Kashmir on Guard for Bird Flu

Srinagar, Jan 20, KONS: With the arrival of millions of migratory birds in the valley, the poultry department is all set to combat bird flu if it appears in any wetland in valley.

Sources said that the state government has issued strict instructions to the state poultry department for remaining vigilant about the guest birds at various wetlands of the valley.

"Our department has deployed teams of doctors at all wetlands and the doctors have been advised to collect samples from the birds if found dead at any wetlands,"
Dr. Ali Mohammad, deputy director poultry, Kashmir, said.
Dr. Ali said that the doctors had been instructed to send the samples to the various laboratories in India for investigation without any delay.

"The doctors have been asked to visit the wetlands every morning to collect samples from dead birds and have also been instructed to send the samples within 12 hours to Jalandhar laboratory for investigation,"
    the deputy director added.

Ruling out any case of bird-flu in valley so far, the deputy director said that the reports of the samples received from laboratories had proved negative till now, attesting to the fact that there was no bird-flu in the valley.
