    Kerala: Diptheria cases causing concern

    Thiruvananthapuram: Along with chikungunya and dengue fever, cases of diphtheria fever reported from certain parts of Kerala have caused concern for the health authorities, State Health Minister P K Sreemathi told the assembly today.

    "Three children have succumbed to diphtheria fever disease in recent times in the state", Sreemathi said while replying to a calling attention motion to the necessity on solving the problems that arose due to the reported failure of the mechanism of prevention of diseases in the state.


    Assuring the members that government have made necessary preventive measures to contain any outbreak of chikungunya and dengue that struck the state for the past two years during the monsoon season, she said.

    The non-availability of vaccine for universal immunization in the state have severely affected these programmes, she said. Centre has stopped the supply of these vaccines in recent months, she said.
