Anti Dengue, Chikungunya campaign ahead of monsoon

    COLOMBO:

The Public Health Department of the CMC is to enlist the participation of schoolchildren ,the private sector and NGOs to inspect premises, in its Dengue and Chikungunya Prevention Campaign and issue notices on such premises that do not confirm to guidelines from March 31.

The campaign was specially organised with the expected South-West monsoon rains during the next few months which could cause a resurgence of Dengue and Chikungunya cases in Colombo.

CMC Public Health Department Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam has appealed to those who are interested in joining the campaign voluntarily to contact his department on Tel.2691922.

The adopted strategy this year is to request schools, Government and Private sector organisations to clean up their premises, get rid of the containers and breeding places and also inspect the neighbouring lands up to a distance of 200 yards with the help of the Public Health Department of the CMC thus creating a buffer zone without mosquitoes around the institutional premises.
