Kuwait Municipality: banning the import of poultry from bird flu

The Chairman of the Committee on Food Safety in Kuwait Municipality Mohammad Al-Otaibi Gzaa Committee recommended that the Ministry of Trade and Industry to ban the import of poultry meat, fresh, chilled, frozen and processed from Hong Kong, South Korea, and Libya because of an outbreak of bird flu in them.
Al-Otaibi added in a press statement today that the committee also recommended in the fourth resolution No. (200) issued on 27 May last year to lift the ban on the import of poultry meat, fresh, chilled, frozen and processed by the Kingdom of Denmark.
He explained that the committee recommended continuing the ban on poultry meat in all forms of manufactured and cooled from India because of the outbreak of bird flu in them.
And to prevent the import of fruit (manga) between Al-Otaibi said the committee recommended commissioned by a representative of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources Committee on providing a detailed report in this regard.
He added that the committee recommended commissioned representative of the Ministry of Health to provide the Committee approved the types of tests and standards concerning Indian spices and powders (curry and Almsala).

There is no current avian flu H5 or H7 outbreak reported in India. In fact, India submitted a final report on June 20, 2014 on the two H5N1 infected crows from February 2014.
