SURAT: Death of as many as 40 chickens over the past three days in Valsad-Paardi village near Valsad city has created a scare among people who suspected the resurgence of bird flu in the area. However, medical tests on Tuesday proved that the chickens died from ranikhet viral infection which is common among chickens and not harmful to humans.
While the locals put the death toll of chicken at 70 in last three days, officials of the state animal husbandry department claimed only 40 chickens died in last seven days.
M V Patel, animal husbandry official of Valsad told TOI, "After the postmortem, it was found that the chicken was suffering from ranikhet disease which is common among them in this season. We have also sent the samples for histopathological analysis to Veterinary College in Navsari."
