  • Did Aaron Rodgers lie about being vaccinated? Packers QB tests positive for COVID (UPDATE)

    Is Aaron Rodgers vaccinated?
That’s the question many football fans are pondering upon learning the Green Bay Packers quarterback will miss Sunday’s game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs after testing positive for COVID-19.

... QB Aaron Rodgers was quoted as saying he’s been ‘immunized.’ By the letter of the law in the NFL, that does not equal vaccinated.”

... Rodgers, 37, petitioned the NFL to have an alternate treatment that he underwent before he returned to the Packers that would allow him to be considered the same as someone who received one of the approved vaccinations, sources told ESPN. After a lengthy back and forth, the league ruled that Rodgers would not get the same consideration and would be considered unvaccinated.

    ...
Rodgers does not wear a mask while in the media auditorium during his weekly and postgame news conferences.”

Vaccinated Aaron Rodgers: NFL’s COVID-19 situation ‘continue to evolve as we get into the season’

        Aug 27, 2021
        JASON WILDE

... But Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Thursday that he has been vaccinated — the first time he’s spoken publicly about his vaccination status — and he hopes he won’t join those other quarterbacks in missing time because of the coronavirus.

“Yeah, I’ve been immunized,” Rodgers replied to a direct question about being vaccinated. (He did not say when he got the vaccine.) “There’s a lot of conversation around it, around the league, and a lot of guys who have made statements and not made statements, owners who have made statements. There’s guys on the team that haven’t been vaccinated. I think it’s a personal decision. I’m not going to judge those guys.

... Rodgers said he did extensive reading on his own about the vaccine before getting it, and that he understood the competitive disadvantage the Packers could be at if he ended up on the COVID-19/reserve list. He said he didn’t get the vaccine to set an example for his reluctant teammates.

Cancel culture is at the door, what does one say?

Varden, H. 2010. Kant and Lying to the Murderer at the Door…One More Time: Kant’s Legal Philosophy and Lies to Murderers and Nazis. Journal of Social Philosophy 41 (4): 403–421.
In the “Introduction to the Doctrine of Right,” Kant expresses the above points by arguing that the innate right to freedom is to be “authorized to do to others anything that does not in itself diminish what is theirs, so long as they do not want to accept it—such things as merely communicating his thoughts to them, telling or promising them something, whether what he says is true and sincere or untrue and insincere . . . for it is entirely up to them whether they want to believe him or not” (6: 238). Words in general do not have coercive power on Kant's view. Although we will return to two exceptions shortly, the general point is that I cannot obtain material objects belonging to others simply by uttering words. Hence, I can say whatever I want, including telling a lie, because simply by uttering my thoughts I cannot deprive others of what is theirs; they can, after all, simply ignore what I am saying. It's a “sticks and stones” point. From the point of view of justice, therefore, you do not wrong another simply by refusing to give him some particular piece of information or simply by lying to him. Moreover, it is totally up to you what information you want to share with another and whether, in fact, what you say is insincere or untruthful. Indeed, as in the case of the murderer at the door, if someone forces you into a situation from which you cannot escape unscathed without giving up your information, this person wrongs you, not the other way around. This is why Kant says in the “Supposed Right to Lie,” as noted above, that the case of the murderer at the door involves one person (the murderer) subjecting another to “an unjust constraint” (8: 426). It is an unjust constraint because the murderer at the door does not have a right to obtain your information and hence threatening you to get it wrongs you.

To lie as such, therefore, is not to wrong another person from the point of view of justice, because lying as such is not a coercive act, understood as a hindrance of someone else's external freedom (her ability to set and pursue ends of her own with her means). In general, lying does not involve coercively taking something that belongs to another person, and so it does not involve depriving another of her external freedom. This is also why, from the point of view of justice, the only two times lying as such is a wrong against another person are when the lie deprives another of her rightful honor (defamation) and when it is part of a contractual negotiation...

so what does "Lying to the Murderer at the Door" have to do with the NFL's (National Football League) protocols on coronavirus.

Aaron Rodgers isn't happy with the way his decision not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 has been received.

The Green Bay Packers star is "upset" at the response to his recent admission that he is not vaccinated against COVID-19 after previously saying that he had been "immunized" against the virus, a source close to the NFL star tells PEOPLE

The source says that Rodgers "feels like he just shared his point of view, and now he's being crucified for it."

"He knew some people would disagree with him, but he didn't know that it would become the s—storm it became. People who he thought were friends are turning on him," the source tells PEOPLE...

N.F.L. Fines Aaron Rodgers, Packers for Covid-19 Protocol Violations

Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers quarterback who is not vaccinated and has voiced unfounded claims about Covid-19 vaccines, was penalized for not wearing a mask in some places.

              Published Nov. 9, 2021Updated Nov. 10, 2021, 11:48 a.m. ET

The N.F.L. has fined the Green Bay Packers $300,000 and two of its players, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Allen Lazard, $14,650 each for failing to follow the Covid-19 protocols agreed on by the league and players’ union.

The penalties come about a week after Rodgers tested positive for the coronavirus and his subsequent public statements espousing false and unfounded claims about the Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. Those comments were condemned by public health officials and by some fellow athletes but the league’s decision focused on his compliance with the rules.

Rodgers and Lazard, who is also unvaccinated, were penalized for attending a Halloween party even though the Covid-19 protocols prohibit unvaccinated players from gathering outside of the team facility in a group of more than three players.

Rodgers also did not wear a mask when speaking with reporters, another violation of the league’s rules.

... Last season, the Tennessee Titans were fined $350,000 for their handling of an outbreak of coronavirus infections that forced the league to reschedule an array of games.

... Last season, the Raiders were also fined $50,000 after an unauthorized person entered the team’s locker room, potentially exposing players and staff to the virus. Nine players were fined $15,000 each for attending a charity event that was held indoors with hundreds of people who were not wearing masks.

Kim Iversen Tackles Aaron Rodgers Controversy, Calls Out NFL on Natural Immunity, Vaccine ‘Segregation’

On the latest episode of The Hill’s “Rising,” journalist and political commentator Kim Iversen questioned the fairness of professional sport’s COVID rules that ignore natural immunity and segregate the vaccinated — who can still get and spread COVID — from the unvaccinated.
                By Jeremy Loffredo

On the latest episode of The Hill’s “Rising,” journalist and political commentator Kim Iversen broke down the National Football League’s (NFL) vaccine rules, Aaron Rodgers’ COVID controversy and the question of natural immunity in professional sports.
“Last week, Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers quarterback, tested positive for COVID which has caused a firestorm of commentary from those who support him and many who don’t,” Iversen reported.
“Rodgers is doing fine and recovering as well as anyone in his age group is expected, but the controversy is surrounding Rodgers and his previous elusiveness regarding his vaccination status,” she said.
The 37-year-old reigning MVP, who told media outlets he chose not to get vaccinated because he’s allergic to an ingredient in the mRNA vaccines, has been the target of talk show hosts, including Howard Stern, Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, since confirming he was taking ivermectin and other treatments to combat the virus.
ORDER TODAY: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s New Book — 'The Real Anthony Fauci'
In August, the quarterback was asked if he’d received a COVID vaccine and he said:
“I’ve been immunized — there are guys on the team who haven’t been vaccinated and I think it’s a personal decision — I’m not going to judge those guys.”
Rodgers didn’t say he had been vaccinated. Instead, he said he had been immunized, “which turns out meant that he was receiving a treatment to boost his immune system,” Iversen said.
“Rodgers is expected to make a full recovery and will likely be on the field against the Seahawks this coming Sunday,” she said. “Unless between now and then he gets canceled by an ultra-woke mob for catching and recovering from a virus — a virus he could have gotten from a vaccinated teammate,” Iversen said.
Iversen listed the “increasingly strict and isolating rules” for unvaccinated NFL players:
“Unvaccinated NFL players are required to test daily, as opposed to weekly tests required for vaccinated players. Unvaccinated players are required to wear face masks at all times and are required to observe social distancing, while vaccinated players do not. Unvaccinated players are not allowed to eat meals with teammates and cannot do any media or marketing opportunities while traveling. They can’t leave the hotel while traveling, and cannot travel on team charters and must make their way to road games separately.”
Iversen raised the question of natural immunity, asking “when Rodgers recovers, will he still be subject to these rules, or will his natural immunity count?”
“In the real world, natural immunity does not count,” Iversen pointed out. “Vaccinated people can enjoy more events and restaurants and even keep their jobs to earn a living to feed their families whereas unvaccinated people can’t” — even though, Iversen said, studies show vaccine effectiveness wanes within months.”
Iversen pointed to the National Basketball Association, which recently announced, beginning in December, players who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months ago, or the Pfizer vaccine more than 6 months ago, will be subject to a booster shot or daily testing.

“So why would fully recovered Aaron Rodgers, who will have robust immunity for real this time, be treated differently than teammates who were vaccinated months ago?” she asked. “Will all athletes be required to receive COVID shots every 2 to 6 months?”
Iversen questioned if these constantly changing COVID rules will eventually make their way to the rest of society.
Rodgers’ choice to avoid the COVID vaccine came with steep consequences. Prevea Health, a healthcare company in Wisconsin and one of Rodgers’ sponsors, ended its partnership with the athlete on Saturday.
However, State Farm, another of Rodgers’ sponsors, supports the athlete. “We respect his right to have his own personal point of view. … we encourage vaccinations, but respect everyone’s right to make a choice based on their personal circumstances,” a State Farm spokesperson said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.

The Green Bay Packers' defense kept a zero on the scoreboard against the Seattle Seahawks — and got the highest score from fans

                    Larry Gallup Packers News
Shutouts are rare in today's NFL — there have only been four this season and there were only three all of last season.

So the Green Bay Packers' 17-0 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday was a big deal for the Packers' defense.

Fans thought so, too. The three defensive position groups got the top average scores from the 500 or so voters in our postgame fan ratings...
