"Safety and security don't just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear." -Nelson Mandela
We all know that China has problems reporting the data, because it has to be cleared at multiple levels. There are credible reports that Beijing was kept in the dark about the Wuhan virus until quite late. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/29/w...rus-china.html
Then there are lots of ways to massage the data, co morbidities take the blame for instance, or just don't test and put it aside.
If the US CDC can still say with a straight face that masks are useless for the general populace, while we know masks are the best way by far to keep people from infecting others, we should not be too harsh on the Chinese bureaucrats. They are much more at risk if they say the wrong thing. They were told what to say, they were wrong, now we need to find out what made them do so.
Frankly, I'd be more interested in knowing why the CDC persists in telling people they should not wear a mask.
