STA, 5 March 2020 - A second case of novel coronavirus infection in Slovenia was confirmed Thursday, Health Minister Aleš Šabeder said, with the person having been in contact with the first patient, who had been detected on Wednesday.

Šabeder said as the health authorities called a press conference to speak about the first case that they had just been informed about a second case, adding that the second patient had been in contact with the first one.

The authorities are rushing to identify other persons who have been in contact with the man who was confirmed as the first COVID-19 case in Slovenia yesterday. The Ljubljana physician who attended to the patient has already been isolated.

        1. Fever may be subjective or confirmed.
        2. For health care personnel, testing may be considered if there has been exposure to a person with suspected COVID-19 without laboratory confirmation
        3. Close contact is defined as:

Officials have reported an 8th case of coronavirus in Slovenia.
The first five cases were reported in Ljubljana, the 6th and 7th in Maribor, and the 8th in Metlika. All the infections originate from travel abroad. Health Minister Šabeder says closing the country's borders will not stop the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile tourism and hotel workers say the situation is serious, with many hotels recording cancellations. Other companies whose businesses are also being affected by the outbreak, are calling on government to introduce tax exemptions and sick pay subsidies.

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - Slovenia will start health checks along the border with Italy and at Ljubljana airport to stem the spread of coronavirus and will spend one billion euros to help companies likely to suffer a loss of business, officials said on Monday.

Health Minister Ales Sabeder said that from Tuesday the southeastern European country would also prohibit all indoor events for more than 100 people. It had banned indoor events with over 500 people on Saturday evening.

Sabeder told a news conference that major sports events, like World Cup skiing and ski jumping competitions, will be held without any spectators.

So far Slovenia has confirmed 23 cases of coronavirus and tested about 1,230 people. Its western border is with Italy, which has suffered one of the world’s most severe coronavirus outbreaks with 366 dead as of Sunday.

LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), March 16 (SeeNews) - The confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection in Slovenia have soared to 219 by 2pm local time on Sunday, up from Friday's 141, the government said.

The result comes after testing a total of 6,156 people, the government said in a statement on Sunday.

According to a report of state news agency STA, Slovenia has reported its first coronavirus casualty over the weekend - a person of the high-risk group of people above 65 years of age.

On Thursday, Slovenia declared a state of emergency because of the coronavirus spread in the country upon recommendation of the National Institute of Public Health. The measure puts the country's Civil Protection Service in charge of coordinating the measures to combat the spread of the virus.

In addition, hospitals started admitting only patients with clinical symptoms requiring hospital treatment, while patients with mild clinical symptoms will have to stay at home.

Public transport has been halted, schools and kindergartens have been closed, restrictions have been imposed on border crossings and on public gatherings.
