  • Northern Ireland: Man with ?swine flu' dies in Craigavon hospital - 15 deaths

A MAN with swine flu is understood to have died in Craigavon hospital.
It is believed the man had underlying health conditions and that two more people are in a critical condition in the same hospital.
An assembly member said she learned of the death as it emerged that 36 people have been treated for the potentially deadly virus in intensive care units across the north in the last month alone.
The man's death last week follows that of a child in the Republic, where the Health Service Executive (HSE) said cases are expected to rise for up to two more weeks.

Swine flu death toll in Republic now 11 after five more succumb to virus

Five more people have died from swine flu in the Republic - bringing the death toll from the virus to 11 so far this winter.

It remains the dominant form of flu circulating, accounting for most hospitalisations and admissions of patients to critical care.

There have been 15 deaths in the Republic from flu this winter, with other casualties due to the B strain of the virus.
The average age of patients who died from the flu is 63 years. A five-year-old boy is among those who have tragically died from the complications of swine flu.
Irish hospitals continue to report that healthy children are among those treated for complications of flu along with at-risk groups.
Visiting restrictions have had to be enforced in University Hospital Limerick due to the flu.
