The rate of influenza in the Madrid region is 5.3 cases per 100,000 population, below the national average, which stands at 15.74 cases per 100,000 population, far from the 372 per 100,000 population detected mid-November, when it became the highest peaks of the season, according to recent data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Network of the Health Institute Carlos III.

Furthermore, the H1N1 virus that causes influenza is no longer as dominant as in previous months, as was present in 50 percent of the total cases of influenza detected in the last week, from 7 to 13 February when at the stage of greatest influence was behind influenza virus between 95 and 99 per cent of all cases.

According to the Carlos III, obtained from the information provided by the Sentinel Physician Network, the community with more cases of flu Catalonia remains with 44.83 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Canarias (34.67), Asturias (33.73, Extremadura (26.92), Andalusia (20.66), Cantabria (17.44) and Melilla (16.46).

Already below the national average are Castilla-La Mancha (14.93), Baleares (12.8), Comunidad Valenciana (11.71), Ceuta (10.83), Aragon (7.95), Basque Country ( 6.08), Navarra (5.41), Comunidad de Madrid (5.3) and Castilla y Leon (4.63). Galicia and Murcia provide no data having no sentinel physician networks.

Thus, the level of disease spread is zero, with a stable and low intensity, as in the report. In terms of age distribution, the influenza incidence is stable in all age groups.

On the other hand, this week has been reported sentinel detection of influenza A in a 83 year old woman with a history of seasonal influenza vaccination in Extremadura, while n Murcia's laboratory has detected a case of influenza C, which binds nine other samples from sentinel of Catalonia detected last week.
