    Week 48: Week 23.11.2015-29.11.2015

    Epidemiological data show increase of influenza and other ARI activity in Russia in comparison with previous week. The nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level (59.6 per 10 000 of population) was lower than the national baseline for season 2015-2016 (69.5) by 14.2%.
    ILI and ARI epidemic thresholds were not exceeded in all of 60 cities collaborating with two WHO NICs in Russia.

    Cumulative number of diagnosed influenza cases

    Cumulative results of influenza laboratory diagnosis by different tests were submitted by 53 RBLs and two WHO NICs. According to these data as a result of 1874 patients investigation the overall proportion of respiratory samples positive for influenza was estimated as 0.6%, including 0.4% for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, 0.1% for influenza A(H3N2) virus, 0.05% for influenza A and 0.05% for influenza B virus.

    Influenza and ARI morbidity data. Increased influenza and other ARI activity was registered during the week 48.2015 in traditional surveillance system in Russia. The nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level (59.6 per 10 000 of population) was lower than the national baseline by 14.2%.
    Etiology of ILI & ARI morbidity. The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive for influenza was estimated as 0.6%. Percent of positive ARI cases of non-influenza etiology (PIV, adeno- and RSV) was estimated as 24.4% of investigated patients by IFA and 18.8% by PCR.
    In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 83 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. No influenza cases were detected.

      In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district (YNAD) registered this year’s first death from swine flu. In hospital of the city New Urengoy the man died in 1957, reports on Monday, RIA «Novosti» with reference to the message of management of Rospotrebnadzora in the YNAO.
      «The case history, he fell ill on 15 November, 13 November, returned from the Rostov region. The patient was prescribed treatment and diagnosed with «acute respiratory viral infection, moderate severity». The patient was referred for hospitalization in the infectious Department», — stated in the message.
      In the hospital on 19 November were conducted radiographic examination, the results of which pathology has been identified. According to the results of x-rays on November 22, diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, was taken for the analysis of the research on influenza viruses. A positive result of the analysis was received on November 30, the PCR lab was discovered swine flu virus. On the same day the patient died.

        Antigenic characterization. Since start of 2015-2016 season first isolated influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus was characterizated antigenically as A/California/07/09-like.
        In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 94 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. Two influenza SARI cases were detected including one influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 case and one influenza A case.

          In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 100 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. One influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 SARI case was detected.

            Etiology of ILI & ARI morbidity. The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive for influenza was estimated as 6.9%. Percent of positive ARI cases of non-influenza etiology (PIV, adeno- and RSV) was estimated as 26.5% of investigated patients by IFA and 26.9% by PCR.
            Antigenic characterization. Since start of 2015-2016 season 24 influenza virus was characterizated antigenically including 23 A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses and 1 influenza A(H3N2) virus. 23 (95.8%) influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses were antigenically similar vaccine strain A/California/07/09. One influenza A(H3N2) virus was antigenically characterizated as A/Switzerland/9715293/2013-like.
            In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 51 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. 2 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 SARI cases and 1 influenza ILI/ARI case were detected.

              Cumulative number of diagnosed influenza cases

              Cumulative results of influenza laboratory diagnosis by different tests were submitted by 29 RBLs and two WHO NICs. According to these data as a result of 501 patients investigation the overall proportion of respiratory samples positive for influenza virus was estimated as 34.7% including 158 (31.5%) influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases, 8 (1.6%) influenza A(H3N2) cases, 7 (1.4%) influenza A cases and 1 (0.2%) influenza B case.

              Influenza and ARI morbidity data. Decreased influenza and other ARI activity was registered during the week 02.2016 in traditional surveillance system in Russia. The nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level (30.2 per 10 000 of population) was lower than the national baseline by 56.5%.
              Etiology of ILI & ARI morbidity. The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive for influenza was estimated as 34.7%. Percent of positive ARI cases of non-influenza etiology (PIV, adeno- and RSV) was estimated as 22.2% of investigated patients by IFA and 8.0% by PCR.
              Antigenic characterization. Totally 44 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and 2 A(H3N2) viruses were characterizated antigenically in two NICs of Russia since the beginning of the season. 34 (77.3%) influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 strains were related closely to influenza A/California/07/09 virus, 10 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses had decreased up to 1/16 titers in interaction with antiserum to this virus. Two A(H3N2) strains were similar to influenza A/Hong-Kong/4801/2014 virus and reacted with antiserum to influenza A/Switzerland/9715293/2013 up to 1/4 - 1/8 of homological titer in HI.
              Genetic characterization. Two positive for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 clinical samples and isolated in December 2015 influenza A/St.Petersburg/349/15 virus were identical for 97.8% to A/California/07/09 and for 99.0% to A/South Africa/3626/13 influenza reference viruses. All investigated strains had following substitutions in HA: S84N, S162N+ and I216T.
              In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 11 SARI and 13 ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. 5 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 SARI cases were detected.

                More than 70 swine flu cases have been registered in the west Siberian city of Novy Urengoi, ten people were hospitalized, the central municipal hospital told TASS on Monday.                   Five person have died in Adygea from the beginning of year of complications of a flu

                  Moscow. On January, 18th. INTERFAX.RU - in Adygea from the beginning of 2016 double growth of number of cases of disease by a flu and ОРВИ in comparison with the similar period of 2015 is fixed, the press-service of the government of republic on Monday has informed.

                  Also it is marked, that from complications of the transferred flu from the beginning of year have died five person. One lethal case is connected with a pneumonia caused by virus H1N1 (a pork flu).

                  According to Ministry of Health of region which are resulted by the press-service, at 71 patients, passing treatment in republican infectious diseases hospital, virus H1N1 is detected. Among them of 20 % - children.

                      The patient of city clinical hospital N40 in Ekaterinburg has died from a pork flu, is informed on a site of medical institution on Monday.

                      Earlier with suspicion on disease in hospital two persons have been hospitalized.

                          Although doctors say that the outbreak of AH1N1 flu in Russia is “seasonal”, many are finding little solitude in this: In St. Petersburg alone, more than 100 people have been taken to hospital and several deaths have been reported.
                          “The number of swine flu cases is higher than before,” Tatyana Zasukhina, a health official in Saint-Petersburg, told TASS news agency Monday. “There have also been several deaths among those diagnosed with flu. Those were people who suffered serious complications.”

                          Over 500 people have been taken to hospital with flu symptoms in the city branded Russia’s “northern capital”, and 123 turned out to have swine flu.

                          Since the beginning of the year, at least 10 people have died of the virus and the subsequent pneumonia it causes, according to the Flu Research Institute’s estimates.
