DGS confirms 27 hospitalizations and 4 deaths for flu

The General-direction of the Health (DGS) informed today what were turned back 27 cases of internamento, due to the flu, from which four turned in death, numbers that are inside the expected one and up to lightly below the registered one in last year.

In agreement with the subdirector of the DGS, Grace Freitas, there is a group of ? hospitals sentry ? what turn back the number of cases of internamento in intensive cares and what, even at the moment, turned back 27 cases, which ? is inside the waited one for the time ?.

? Of these 27 cases, there are four known deaths ?, it added, underlining that, ? compared with the homologous period, there is no the excess of mortality that happened in last year ?.

According to the person in charge, in last grippal time, there was a very accented peak, which coincided with a bigger incidence of flu.

Oppositely to this situation, this year ? the grippal activity is moderated, we are reaching the peak of the flu, but it is not explosive, is also moderate ?, it affirmed.

As for four moderate deaths, Grace Freitas explained that it the question is sporadic cases of persons with associate complications, which evolved into death.

? This is the normal thing, there is no reason for alarm, they are persons whose basic situation was already not good, persons with a vulnerability bigger than a healthy person ?, it added.

The person in charge underlined that every winter there is flu, persons who are ill and who are cured, others that are interned and others that die, reason because every year to DGS pass appeals to the vaccination and to habits of hygiene of the hands and respiratory, to moderate the epidemics of flu.

The Nosocomial Centre of the University of Inhabitant of Coimbra (CHUC) communicated today the death of a woman there interned, with confirmed diagnosis of flu A and co-morbilidades when they were associated, increasing so, for two, the number of deaths in the unities of the city.

In press conference carried out in Monday, the CHUC had already confirmed the death of a person, in Saturday, also infected with flu A, e what ? was suffering from other factors of risk ?.

Ill 14 does not put any negative evolution in perspective for the remainder what are interned, five two which in the intensive cares, which besides the usual symptoms, have respiratory problems. The patients are diagnosed by flu A, one of two stocks in circulation this Winter. The virus A H1N1 is person in charge for the pandemia of flu of 2009, that from that time it entered in the composition of the vaccines, such as it happens this year. There is no certainty as for one or two patients, but of those who are interned in Inhabitant of Coimbra they did not vaccinate the majority.
