The flu epidemic reached its peak in the first week of January, except in Corsica and the Hauts-de-France where the recession was not yet observed. Compared to last year, the epidemic has hit patients under age 65 harder, although older patients will still be the first victims. In the field, we felt we had to deal with more serious cases than usual. Between November 1, 2017 and the second week of 2018, 1,137 serious cases of influenza were reported. The average age of the patients was 57 years old, and the majority of them were not vaccinated. Of the cases admitted to intensive care, 123 died: 3 were under the age of 5, 50 were aged 15 to 64, and 70 were 65 or older. As every year, a complete report will be made and published in the coming months. But we can already draw some observations from these last weeks of epidemic.
