Valyantsina Kachan, Belarus? chief sanitary officer, has promised that the authorities would not conceal from the public deaths related to H1N1 (swine) flu, if any.

?I would like to stress that if we are 100 percent sure that a specific person has died from this specific flu, we will certainly record the matter and tell about it to media,? Ms. Kachan said during a TV show on Monday.

She said that she was ?slightly embarrassed? that people ?sometimes doubt data provided today by the health ministry.?

According to the health ministry, there had been 59 confirmed cases of swine flu in Belarus as of November 1.

Belarusian and Russian researchers are studying the mutation of the virus to understand why the flu aggravates other illnesses in patients quickly, Ms. Kachan said.

Lyudmila Zhylevich, chief of the health ministry?s first aid department, claimed that all recent deaths from pneumonia were studied with the aid of laboratory tests and their findings suggest that the people died as a result of ?combined infection.? //BelaPAN
