    Portugal has today recorded a total of 1,135 covid-19-related deaths, nine more than on Saturday, and 27,581 infected, another 175, according to the epidemiological bulletin released today by the General Directorate of Health.


    In comparison with Saturday's data, which recorded 1,126 deaths, today there was an increase in deaths of 0.8%.

    Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (27,581), data from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) show that there are 175 more cases than on Saturday (27,406), representing an increase of 0.6%.

                          LISBON, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A study released on Thursday indicated that the number of critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care units (ICUs) in Portugal due to COVID-19 would have tripled in the first half of April without the confinement measures imposed by the government.

                          Researchers from the National School of Public Health (ENSP) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa noted that, without the lockdown, the National Health Service (SNS) would have to receive 748 critically ill patients in the ICUs, almost tripling the 229 patients who needed that kind of care.
