The number of people confirmed to be infected with novel coronavirus in Hungary has grown to 343, with more Hungarian citizens having tested positive, and another elderly patient suffering from chronic diseases has died, the government website koronavirus.gov.hu said on Saturday. So far, eleven people have died from the virus, the website said.

According to the government’s decree (published March 27 in the Official Gazette), people can only leave their homes to go out to go to work and shop and to “run errands regarding basic needs.” Grocery stores, drug stores, pharmacies, and markets will be open. People will be required to keep one and a half meters apart. Those above 65 can only visit food stores and pharmacies between 9 am and 12 pm. Between 9 am and 12 pm only those above 65 are allowed to visit these places. Gathering in groups will be banned. People will be allowed to go for walks and children will be allowed to be taken out for walks in small groups. Curfew measures are in effect between March 28 and April 11. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday secured the right to rule by decree after his Fidesz party passed a law in parliament granting him open-ended extra powers to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

The legislation extending a state of emergency has triggered criticism from opposition parties, human rights groups and the Council of Europe, Europe's main rights forum, as it contains no timeframe.
It also imposes jail time of up to five years on those hindering measures aimed at containing the spread of the virus in Hungary and on those spreading false information related to the crisis.

Orban has said the epidemic was expected to peak in Hungary in June or July and flagged economic stimulus to be announced next month. Hungary has 447 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and 15 deaths.

Hungary will start publishing details of COVID-19 deaths in the country on the governmentʼs official website for news on the pandemic - koronavirus.gov.hu - from Tuesday, Hungarian news agency MTI reports.
The updated website data show all but one of the COVID-19 deaths in Hungary were cases with underlying health conditions. The case for which there was no data available was an 80-year-old male.
The deaths of people with COVID-19 who were under the age of 65 include a 59-year-old woman with a kidney transplant who had diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and ischemic heart disease; a 53-year-old man with cardiovascular disease; a 41-year-old woman with high blood pressure; and a 38-year-old man with chronic pancreatitis and alcohol-related liver disease.

BUDAPEST, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Every Hungarian healthcare workers will receive a special bonus of 500,000 forints (1,475.4 U.S. dollars) this year, Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared here on Friday.
"This year, every healthcare worker will receive an additional 500,000 forints," Orban said on public radio station MR1, during his regular Friday morning interview. "Details about the payment and other measures will be made public on Saturday," he added.
Orban also spoke about the restriction on movements introduced on March 28, till April 11, saying that a decision on the lockdown would be made on Wednesday during the next session of the government...

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Hungary has reached 744, up 11 compared to yesterday, according to data by government coronavirus information site koronavirus.gov.hu.
Four patients with underlying medical conditions have passed away, increasing the coronavirus death toll to 38. The age of the four latest victims varied between 61 years and 94 years.
The total number of recoveries stands at 67, up one since yesterday...
Government data showed confirmed coronavirus cases jumped by 210 to 1,190 over the past 24 hours, and the death toll now stands at 77.
The crisis has presented Orban with the toughest challenge to his decade-long rule. His response - to rule by decree indefinitely - has drawn criticism from the European Union.
“It seems as if other countries are already peeking out (of the crisis), as if there was already light at the end of the tunnel,” Orban told public radio in an interview. “For now, I do not see this in Hungary.”
“We have won time, we have been defending ourselves well, but the real test is yet to come,” Orban said, adding that Hungary appeared to be heading towards a period of mass infections and it would be difficult to avert such an outcome.
