Two children hospitalized in Turkey on Bird Flu suspicion
    Kuwait News Agency - February 23, 2007

ISTANBUL, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- Two children of one family are undergoing bird flu medical tests after suffering fever and clear symptoms of the fatal disease.

The two children were admitted to the central hospital of Burdor province in southern Turkey, and were placed under intensive observation, NTV network quoted medical sources as saying Friday.

Blood samples were taken from the two suspected cases and the results of the tests will be announced within 24 hours, the sources added.

In 2006 Turkey culled some 4.1 domestic fowls in an effort to contain the outbreak of H5N1, the fatal strain of the bird flu that killed four children.

      Fear of BF in Burdur
Esin and Dogan A. from Burdur's Aglasun region, took their 1 yr old daughter Gulay to a local health clinic after she came down with high fever and runny nose after 3 of their chickens died.

After initial treatment, little Gulay was taken to Burdur State Hospital with the diagnosis of severe flu.

The little girl is in the infectious diseases ward and has eaten the eggs from the dead chickens. The three chickens have been snet to a lab in Bornova, Izmir, for testing.

Burdur Mayor said that the family is being kept in the hospital as a precaution, and that there is no 'there is bird flu/there is no bird flu' discussion yet, and no needd to panic, until tomorrow when the test results come in.

(There have been mass bird deaths around Burdur Lake in the oast few weeks, but the samples from the birds have turned out to be - for BF - zkurmus)

      Burdur’da kuş gribi kuşkusu
      23 Şubat 2007
      Sadun KILIÇ, (DHA)
Burdur’un Ağlasun İlçesi’nde oturan Esin ve Doğan A. çifti, 3 tavuklarının ölmesinin ardından yüksek ateş ve burun akıntısı tespit edilen 1 yaşındaki kızları Gülay A.’yı, sağlık ocağına götürdü.
