Nové Zámky, January 12 (TASR) - Veterinarians have confirmed the occurrence of bird flu in the Novozámok district. The laboratories of the Zvolen Veterinary Institute examined five dead large swans, which were found at gravel pits in Dvory nad Žitavou and Záhoň in Bánov.
The National Reference Laboratory subsequently confirmed the avian influenza virus in all samples. "The sequence analysis method revealed that it is a strain of the H5N1 bird flu virus, which is currently circulating in migrant and wild bird populations in Europe," said the city of Nové Zámky.
