Avian flu in the Człuchów poviat
2022-01-13 | Przechlewo, Człuchów
Some of the dead birds picked up from the Brda River in the Przechlewo commune suffered from bird flu. The poviat veterinarian confirmed the results of the research and announced that the entire Człuchów poviat would be covered by the endangered area. According to ecologists, the constantly increasing number of dead birds in Pomerania is not only the result of the H5 N1 virus.
Witnesses alerted about the large number of dead swans in the vicinity of Przechlewo, who, with horror, discovered a dead flock on the Brda River. The employees of the poviat veterinary inspectorate in Człuchów immediately began to act. With the help of firefighters in the section from Przechlewo to Sępolno, 43 dead swans were found and sent to the laboratory, where it was shown that some swans suffered from avian flu.
Over the next few days, the entire Człuchów poviat will be included in the endangered area. For farmers and poultry farmers, this means keeping farms strictly confined to keep the animals from coming into contact with wild birds. Currently, dead birds found in the Pucki and Nowodworski poviats are also examined. Dead birds were found again in Puck Bay. For environmentalists who have been sounding the alarm for many years about the growing unexplained cases of dead swans at this site, this is worrying.
Ecologists from the association "Our Earth" recall with horror what happened last year in the vicinity of Władysławowo, where almost a thousand dead birds were found, only some of them suffered from the H5N1 virus.
Ecologists are convinced that the poor condition of the environment is related to the discharge of salt minerals into the waters of the Puck Bay. The H5N1 virus, commonly known as bird flu, first appeared in Poland in 2007. Despite the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, the virus spreads to private farms every year.
