            Bird flu again in Lubuskie
            Publication: 21/11/2021, 10:26

Avian influenza outbreaks have reappeared in several provinces. It is associated with the autumn migration of wild birds to warm countries. Lubuskie is also one of the provinces where the H5N1 virus appeared among poultry. In our region, bird flu affected farms in the Skwierzyna commune.

            - We have developed methods and procedures for dealing with such a circumstance. We learned a lot in 2016, when the bird flu reached us for the first time, so today we do not panic - says Wojciech Kowalewski, deputy mayor of Skwierzyna.

Poultry farmers are advised to apply appropriate measures to minimize the risk of transmission of the avian influenza virus, including, inter alia, securing feed against the access of wild animals, not feeding poultry outside the buildings where the animals are kept, and the use of protective clothing and footwear on the farm.

About 23 thousand ducks were slaughtered at the farm in Parzęczew, at ul. Ozorkowska after the occurrence of the H5N1 avian influenza virus in the herd was confirmed . Highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed on Sunday by the County Veterinary Doctor .

The outbreak was discovered on a poultry farm of about 23,000 ducks, which were disposed of on Monday. Their owner reported to the veterinary services that over a thousand birds died during the day. Studies have confirmed that the cause is bird flu. Bogdan Jarota, the starost of Zgierz, convened a meeting of the Poviat Crisis Management Team - in order to coordinate the activities of services and local government units participating in the action of eliminating the outbreak, and the Łódź voivode today issued an ordinance on the determination of the HPAI infected and endangered area.

The infected area is mainly Parzęczew and a dozen or so nearby towns in the commune of Parzęczew, as well as Śliwniki in the commune of Ozorków. The endangered area covers practically the entire territory of the Zgierz poviat, as well as a part of the Poddębicki and Łęczyca poviats. The firefighters put disinfection mats on the farm and the police set up a permanent station in its place. The farm area is marked. A specialized company eliminated the bird flu outbreak and took the material for disposal. The area has been disinfected.

The Poviat Veterinary Officer appeals to all poultry breeders in the Parzęczew commune to exercise extreme caution and observe the principles of biosecurity when handling poultry, minimizing the risk of virus transmission to the farm...

This outbreak was confirmed in Windyki (commune of Iława). The affected herd, which, according to the procedures, must be killed in its entirety, is four times larger than the one in Nowa Wieś, where the outbreak of the same disease was confirmed two days earlier.

The farm in Nowa Wieś kept 5,800 slaughter turkeys; in Windyki, where veterinary services confirmed the 38th outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza this year in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, almost four times more.

Animals may be returned to a commercial farm where avian influenza has been diagnosed, 21 days after the final cleaning and disinfection has been completed.
